Forum Avatar Restrictions
I just changed my avatar here, as you can see, but I was having some trouble with it initially. I saw that the forum has awfully restrictive settings for new avatars. There's a 6 kilobyte size limit, which all but eliminates the possibility for animated GIFs, and has an 80x80 pixel limit. That isn't too bad, but it could be better. I had to link my new avatar to imageshack to successfully upload it, which stretched and distorted the image. I think the forum's avatar [and signature, for that matter] restrictions could stand to be a bit more lenient. I understand that there could be a problem with storage space, but maybe just increasing the maximum image size to around 20kb would be really helpful. Anyway, I just wanted to say that.

Re: Forum Avatar Restrictions
Did you specify the dimensions when setting it, or did you leave it on 80x80? If you didn't tell it 51x71 maybe that's why it stretched it.

Thanks; that helped. I didn't know you could set the image dimensions in the User Control Panel itself.Hobie-wan wrote:Did you specify the dimensions when setting it, or did you leave it on 80x80? If you didn't tell it 51x71 maybe that's why it stretched it.

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO! Do not change this! I know it's strict, and it sometimes can be hard, but believe me, it's worth it!
Other forums looks TERRIBLE, load SLOW, and look like they're full of 8 year olds! I'm already getting kinda mad that some people aren't paying attention to the siggy limit AT ALL! 4 lines of text, and pictures must be only a certain number of pixels tall. I'm almost positive the image in my siggy is at the max height. ONLY exception is common premade siggy images like PSN or whatever.
If you want to know why these rules are in place: Avatar must be the small dimensions because it makes everyone's post look uniform and clean, avatar must be small size so the page loads faster, siggy size so I don't have to scroll through everything to get to posts.

We also have users who view the forums via iphone and other handheld devices, and images that are too large tend to make it difficult for them to enjoy the site, hence why we opted for smaller signatures and avatars.slowslow325 wrote:NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO! Go look at other forums that aren't handled as well.

I've never put much thought into the avatar limitations...
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?
