You can use the rest of the storage space for other purposes, formatting for 360 doesn't render the drive useless.
And installing the games does make a difference for the more demanding games like GTA and Forza.

True, but still, is it worth the hassle of moving an external drive around when you can just get a usb drive and leave it?Pulsar_t wrote:You can use the rest of the storage space for other purposes, formatting for 360 doesn't render the drive useless.

Any one know if you can use a memory card adapter with a memory card instead of a flash drive? Theoretically it should be the same, right?

It's possible to turn it into a usb device, but I'm not sure it's worth it considering the biggested memory unit was 512mb.

Sorry, to clarify, I mean memory cards like SD, CF, or any other camera memory cards.lwcook wrote:http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php? ... try3153766D.D.D. wrote:Any one know if you can use a memory card adapter with a memory card instead of a flash drive? Yeah it will work fine as it will appear as a USB Mass Storage Device. You're going to want something bigger than 2GB though as for some reason the 360 installs a 500MB file on the stick. Not really sure what it's used for. I used a couple of 8GB USB sticks to transfer the data from my 20GB Premium X360 to my 120GB Elite and it showed them as 6.9GB. Despite them being listed as 7.43GB on my Mac.D.D.D. wrote:Sorry, to clarify, I mean memory cards like SD, CF, or any other camera memory cards.lwcook wrote:http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php? ... try3153766D.D.D. wrote:Any one know if you can use a memory card adapter with a memory card instead of a flash drive? Thanks. I'm just trying to convince myself not to spend the extra $100 for the 250GB slim package when it really seems like I don't need to have a hard drive.Niode wrote:Yeah it will work fine as it will appear as a USB Mass Storage Device. I only see a few games on XBLA that are exclusive and I just can't see a reason to spend the extra $100...

There's nothing stopping you buying an XBLA game and then deleting it when you're finished. You can always re-download it should you feel the need to play it again. There isn't really any need for a HDD in the 360, no games require a mandatory install and every single multi platform game will load faster than the equivalent on PS3 from disc. You have nothing to worry about regarding that. You're only shaving milliseconds off on the most part and some games even take longer when loading from the HDD (Halo 3 - I'm not aware of others but it's possible there are some out there).D.D.D. wrote:Thanks. If you can't justify the cost then don't get one. Personally, I managed with a 20GB Premium for 4 years and it never hampered my experience. A 4GB + a 16GB USB stick and you're good to go really. Unless you're installing every single game you get, you're not going to really need it. You can fit a lot of XBLA titles onto 20GB.
