I tried cleaning the lens, it didn't solve anything. I don't think that's the problem or it would not read Daytona.

All games are PAL, like the console (As evidenced by the box) and Fighting Vipers 2 is fresh out of the box so it has no damage. The other games also look perfect.

If I play Daytona it doesn't make much noise but if I introduce any other disc it makes "Cha-Ching!" noises while trying to read. I think it's the lens moving up and down.

So, unless you have other ideas I think I'm still without Dreamcast.

Check your motherboard. I remember there was some fault on DC mobos which would cause them to fail at reading discs but the disc drives themselves were in minty shape.

Take mine for example, I have and old old DC that sounds like it's on it's last leg (mainly because it is) and my other newer minty DC that was just fine all of the sudden stopped reading discs one day. Well after trying out everything I could on it all that would happen was it would boot to the menu of some games and eventually it just started stalling and resetting no matter what. So I switched the drives out between it and my other DC only to see that then drive itself worked perfectly and the motherboard on the console was to blame.

Another thing you might want to try is to open up your DC, remove the disc drive and vacuum it out. Then reseat the drive and make sure the ribbon cable was GENTLY firmly reinserted all the way into it's socket. The biggest problems on Dreamcasts are usually the littlest things so it pays to make sure everything's connected properly.

I can't figure out why it would play one game and not others. It sounds to me like the problem is with the other games, not the DC. If the system was messed up, wouldn't it be unable to play anything?

None of the answers so far seem to have addressed this.

Also, look on the bright side: You now have a dedicated Daytona machine!

Oh, sorry I forgot about the topic! I returned it, I could have tinkered with it a bit more but I decided against it. I do not have tools nor a real willingness to tinker right now, I prefer to wait.

@dsheinem

However the dics all seem fine and Fighting Vipers 2 was brand-new. It seems very unlikely to me =/

@Mod_Man_Extreme

Interesting. I will keep that into account if it happens again.
