Hey guys, I need some help. I'm looking for a video interview from (I believe) E3 2005. It was a brief interview with a Microsoft rep about the about-to-be-released 360. In the interview, the rep (a woman) was asked about the USB ports on the system and their use with mouse and keyboard support for the system. She explained a mouse and keyboard would work but was very clear that they would not work in game play. I believe she said this several times to ensure the interviewer had a clear understanding that the 360 would not allow mouse and keyboard support in game.
I'm almost positive that the interview was conducted by IGN or Gamespot. I simply cannot find it. Help!

Don't know about the video. I would think support would work if game is coded to include keyboard-mouse as a peripheral though. Does anyone know of any game that does use the keyboard?

I believe the Quake games and Orange Box both supported Mouse and Keyboard controls.
Phantasy Star Universe however supports only the keyboard for chatting in game as do a few other games released before and some after the 360 Chatpad came out.

Re: (help) Xbox 360 keyboard and mouse support interview
The only current gen game (that I know of) that supports KB&M is Unreal Tournament III on the PS3. Everything else, regardless of console, is controller only - even The Orange Box. Hopefully ID will be kind and include support with Rage.
Sony doesn't appear to care if a PS3 supports the keyboard and mouse in game play. Microsoft appears to block all requests to add it to a game. There are a lot of theories and endless discussions about this, but no one is able to provide a real answer. That interview sticks out in my mind as brief glimpse into MS's stance on the topic. It has all but vanished from the web, but it would be nice to see this woman sternly saying "not for game play" over and over again when questioned by the interviewer.

You can still plug a USB keyboard into a 360 and use it to type. I did that quite often before I got a chat pad. The chat pad kinda makes the feature a bit redundant, especially since most USB keyboards have pretty short wires, unless you're using it wirelessly (WTF is up with wireless keyboards that have 3m long cables attached to the fucking receiver and then the vast majority of wired keyboards have a 1m cable, 2m if you're lucky)

Yeah, everyone understands by now that the keyboard and mouse will interface with the 360. That isn't the issue. The issue is that mice and keyboards are not supported for actual game play.
back on topic: Still haven't found the video.

That will most likely never change.wip3outguy7 wrote:Yeah, everyone understands by now that the keyboard and mouse will interface with the 360. That isn't the issue. The issue is that mice and keyboards are not supported for actual game play.

Yeah. I actually had a theory as to why things are the way they are when it comes to kb&m support on consoles. I was talking to someone with ties to a pretty big multi platform developer. They confirmed my theory.
