GCN Cable DOL-009

So I found this (J) cable. The one end looks like some sort of Japanese TV hookup but it has the port on the other end for the component (or is it composite, I always mix em up). Anyway, can I carve this up and make one or should I just sell it as a nifty collectible over in the BST?

Composite is a yellow image cord, then white/red for L/R. Component is R/G/B cables for image, then white/Red for L/R.

You can't carve it up because the GC component cables actually have an encoder chip in the console plug end. That's why there aren't any 3rd party GC component cables, they aren't simply a plug and wires. Maybe you have some sort of weird scart to RCA cable? Got a picture?

Hmm, you might be able to then. Using that MMMonkey guide but maybe just putting RCA jacks on the end instead of the scart plug. I haven't messed with that kind of thing, so not sure if you'd need the resistor they added or not for that sort of hack.

I am seeing some things that make me think I may just be able to hack and wire it. I will keep looking, I geuss the thing that freaks me out is frying my TV if I am wrong. Do you think this can happen?

Probably not. I'm pretty sure that the signals down the wires are low enough that the worst you'd get is a bad picture or 'no input' signal if something was wrong. As long as you're not accidentally sending power down a wire it is probably fine. You're not wiring up some amplifier box that's going to be plugged in or anything. Maybe wait for someone else that's done video hacks to pipe in though.

What you have is a Japanese D-Terminal cable. In Japan they used these to put the analog component video signal direct to a TV on one integrated connector instead of the crapton of RCA jacks we used in the US and Europe.

All you'll need is a D-Terminal to RCA Component coupler cable and you've got a Gamecube component cable!

EDIT!: Also, you can not make an Scart cable out of it. Only an RGB cable for an Amiga monitor or a wonky at best VGA mod.

This cable is perfect to use with the D-Terminal input on the X-RGB's for much simpler hookup and no need to deal with an adapter there.

The only problem I keep running into with adapters is the cost isnt worth it. I may as well buy an official cable. I also keep finding these cables for 50 bucks or over so I am not inclined to cut it up. The box is cool though LOL. Maybe I will just sell the cable, save the box, or maybe just trade the whole damn thing is anyone wants it. Might be a fun project for someone, or a dust collector to feed my OCD.
