Sega have opened a new trademark for 'Dreamcast'. It probably means nothing, but what if Sega has plans for the brand name? It's most likely just to prevent anyone using the brand name for their own products, but you can dream, can't you? =P
Nothing to get excited about, but..
Yeah I saw a couple sites reporting on this at Digg.
Even if they are planing on using the name, perhaps its just for them to market Dreamcast games on XBLA or something...

If they still had all their best developers it might make sense if they had their heads on straight.Mozgus wrote:Nothing to see here. Move along.
Seriously, Sega isn't coming back into the console market. They're not that stupid. However much we want it, and we'd enjoy what it offered, the truth is Sega would lose their asses on it, much more so than they did with DC.
I haven't seen numbers to compare, but I'm thinking they sold more copies of their best games when they were actually on Sega consoles. I don't think the multiplatform technique is working as well as they were hoping.

Yes racketboy is right. They have had miserable profits the past 5 years and the only game they have is the sonic series, which sells decent however you can't have your company depend on one product. Espically if it sucks. However sega doesn't have the money to get into the console business and who would support them?
I surprised one of the big three hasn't bought them up yet. They probably are a bargain right now since their value is down, but they have a lot of valuable IPs when put in the right hands.mason wrote:Yes racketboy is right. Sure, Sega is a litte down these days, but they are still a massive game company and I really don't think they could be purchaced at this point. Sega itself is a cheep company, but to pay all their employees would be a ludicrous investment, and so far the only companies willing to pay that much are Microsoft and Electronic Arts, because of Sega's size it would not just be a cost at the buy, but it would continue to cost the company forever.

Where are you guys getting this information that Sega is in the gutter? I heard more than once that they've been turning up profits ever since they went third party.
Wiki shows that they've had an overall good ride. There's some bumps here and there, but they seem to get countered soon after.
