Weasels, its all good. Can we get back on and do MGS: PW in the meantime? Also, I do highly recommend VC2. I'm about 6 hours in now and it just keeps opening up. Like any Japanese game, there are some things I could complain about, but the game is too fun.

Also, http://www.1up.com/news/sega-teasing-va ... ronicles-3 this news is awesome if it is Valkyria Chronicles 3. In that case, if they are done with DLC for part 1, I'm cool with it.

Since there's no randomness in the real world.

I'd argue that randomness and probability are a big part of what defines RPGs (not just japanese) anyhow.

I mean hell what do you think dice rolls are in D&D?

Not as unrealistic as the randomness in rpgs. A trained sniper with a big huge crosshairs zoomed in a non-moving target missing the shot is damn near impossible in real life. I mean, they're freaking snipers! What good are they if they don't have accuracy? The number of shots I missed in VC with snipers is total bullshit. Marina's the only one in the game who seems to consistantly hit her targets

9 times of ten the random dice rolls make rpgs LESS realistic than real life combat. A higly trained warrior misses an attack because of what? BAD LUCK!? Nonsense. It's not something I care about in most rpgs where a missed attack is not the end of the world, but it can make or break you in Valkyria Chronicles. Some games go overboard with the random factor, like the infuriating random treasure system Final Fantasy 12 had

I think the random factor in RPGs is because they are really turn based but they are supposed to be real time fantasy experiences.

In the case of Valkyria chronicles I'm gussing the soldiers are supposed to be moving? Don't know. Don't care. Never used snipers anyway. Rosie was a god damn tank. She could take out the entire enemy platoon in 1 turn.

Sometimes, but not in every situation. The one thing I did like about VC is that there were no useless classes, you couldn't rely on shock troopers all the time

I know randomness is part of the genre. RPGs are all about numbers and probability, but sometimes they go too far. The hassle of reloading your game a dozen times to get certain items to appear or be dropped by enemies in some games, or constantly missing attacks in Valkyria Chronicles, or getting randomly ambushed in Shin Megaten Nocturne and having your party wiped out, it's all very annoying and a distinctly japanese rpg problem. I don't have to put with bad luck affecting my gameplay quite so often when I play something like Knights of the Old Republic or Mass Effect

The snipers in VC stopped being terrible shots once you upgrade your guns a few times. Hell, by the end my scouts were able to snipe almost as good as the snipers because I'd focused on the marksman branch.

Randomness of drops is a pure JRPG thing, where the best stuff requires grinding. Compare with WRPGs, where the best stuff is at the end of some tough dungeon. I'm not sure why JRPGs went that route. As for VC, what makes the randomness a real pain is that every action is worth a lot. With most other RPGs an individual action doesn't count much in the grand scheme of things, so the occational miss doesn't matter.

And SMT, that's INTENTIONAL. I think they consider themselves a failure if they don't get a requisite number of controllers broken by the playerbase.

omg omg the story seams so crap, and the characters so unlikeable.

Come on Sega. After VC managed to have such a good setting, with loveable characters, getting rid of plenty of anime cliches (see the main love duo actually proposing to one another before the end of the story) and of course the killer art style (I know it can't be done on the PSP, but they could have done it on the FMVs) why did you have to go with an anime school motive. And FFS there is even a character with glasses who has to keep putting them up. Stupidest cliche for a smart character ever.

You've clearly never had glasses; I put mine up all the time.

I know but all the people I know that put their glasses up usually do it from the side. We had a professor that put his glasses up with the middle part and we made fun oh him. Proof enough that kids will make fun of everything they can when it comes to teachers.
