Called it.

Can't wait to get home tonight and see if I can port the code to one of my atmegas. Psjailbreak on open source arduinos ftw!

Awesome! I can't wait to see what kind of homebrew the PS3 is going to get! I think we will be seeing some awfully impressive emulators soon.

Sadly, it's impossible to port the code to arduino due to it using a serial to USB chip. It doesn't run pure USB which is what is required to make the exploit work. Unless a custom USB driver is written for arduino and is used in conjunction with a usb controller attached to the arduino. Something way outside of my knowledge base and to be honest, way too fiddly to be of any use to anyone really.

I've just ordered a teensy++v2.0 so when that comes I'll be able to get the hack up and running with minimal effort.

I wonder if we would've seen this pop up so fast if it weren't for Sony's removing OtherOS?

I doubt it, people have been working behind the scenes on a LV2 (GameOS) level exploit for a while. It was inevitable. The OtherOS exploit was never really that useful since it was only useable inside OtherOS. It could never give anybody access to GameOS since the system required a reboot therefore losing the hack. For the LV0/LV1 hack to work (IE GeoHot OtherOS) it needed code to be running to peek the memory values then inject unintended values (by pulsing the memory lines on the motherboard) into valid memory, therefore bypassing the hypervisors security, and since you can't run unsigned code on GameOS without being in Dev Mode it would be impossible to hack the hypervisor whilst in GameOS, perhaps you could cause the system to hang but whether or not it would allow for a stack smash or similar attack is very unlikely. At the end of the day the OtherOS exploit is a very brute force attack. It's not elegant enough to be useful for a lot of people.

More good news! Some hackers are working on porting the hack to more common USB devices. It's been ported to the Nokia N900 and Palm Pre already, and ports to iOS, Android, the PSP, and a couple more types of USB development chips are coming soon. It is going to be so awesome to hack the PS3 using a PSP!

These past two weeks there has been an explosion of ps jailbreaks, gosh now don't I know which one to buy. I don't care about the first usb mentioned too pricey. Has anyone pre ordered their jailbreaks or received them already?
