It seems a bit odd that you'd complain about a game's graphics (I can only presume it's the graphics) on a forum that is primarily concerned with retro games anyway...Snickerd00dle wrote:My roomate is playing it right now, I didn't know they still made gamecube games

Re: metroid other m
I am far from being a graphics snob, but when paying 50 dollars for a game, I better damn well not feel like I have my DS hooked up to my TV. If they can make Mario Galaxy look as good as it did, I feel like Metroid should be treated the same, overall the effort that appears to be put into how the game looks, resonates into how the gameplay is, which is lacklusterIncognito D wrote:It seems a bit odd that you'd complain about a game's graphics (I can only presume it's the graphics) on a forum that is primarily concerned with retro games anyway...Snickerd00dle wrote:My roomate is playing it right now, I didn't know they still made gamecube games

Once you get the ice beam it becomes MUCH easier, as the enemies you can jump on can also be frozen in place momentarily.SpaceBooger wrote:I don't mind the cut scenes, I like the story, but I just cant seem to jump on enemy's heads. I cant get the timing and "spacing" down yet.

Just saw the review of this on X-Play the other day. It was pretty scathing. Their biggest complaint was regarding how they changed Samus into a whiny little girl. I haven't played this, but the combat/controls by Team Ninja must be good. Anyone who has played this have any thoughts on Samus as portrayed in the game?

The dialogue is awful, and its true, she whines about being treated like a little kid, even though she looked like a little kid *in flashbacks*

pretty much all of the story and cut scenes are awful. Even the way they communicate what they want to say is so haphazard. I try to give it the benefit of the doubt and assume that the language and gestures work better in japanese. But... I'm not japanese. And this isn't good.Snickerd00dle wrote:bladerunner wrote:Just saw the review of this on X-Play the other day. It was pretty scathing. Re: metroid other m
all the reviewers been bashing this game on one concept>>>>> STORY<<<<<<
because they cant get to the action fast enough.
i think that bunch of croc considering that most new games do have alot of story and theme attached to it so y cant Metroid b the same.
It just a change of pace considering that all metroid games cut to the chance and in the action in a split second of booting up the game. Wether its on the Nes , Snes, and gamecube.
So stop whining aobut the storya nd just play it.

Alright. I'll take a crack at this. Very minor spoil ahead.AznKhmerBoi wrote:So stop whining aobut the storya nd just play it.
Although the dodge move is pretty cool- it can't hold up a game and gets old a few hours in. A metroid game is about backtracking and exploration. There is absolutely none of that in this game. You go to a waypoint, and unlock the next 5 rooms you go in, rinse repeat. There are no secret rooms. No hidden passages. The most you can hope for is a hidden ramp that will bring you to a missile powerup.
Which brings me to the fact that you actually don't earn anything in the game beyond energy tanks and missile powerups. All your powerups are apparently already on you, but you just wait for some douchbag to let you use them? What the fuck is that? You are samus fucking aren. You left the galactic whatever for a reason. If you are getting shot to shit by a guy, you should be weapons free. And at the very least when the story actually starts kicking in and samus thinks there is a traitor, that should at least be a reason to not give a fuck and unlock everything. All in all, it lends itself to not feeling like you are getting more powerful through the game, but actually like you are held back the whole game. Which- is really really fun right? And part of the whole appeal of metroid is that you explore the areas that you can't normally get to. See shit and think "oh man, when I find that item/weapon/thing it is going to be great" not "oh man, when that guy i just met lets me use the weapon i have on me at some arbitrary point it is going to be great"
Don't even get me started on recharging missiles and life. Not to mention taking away random item drops. There is something for the thrill of being down to your last life and struggling to survive hoping that you can kill an enemy before he kills you and praying that he drops some health. Which is my point. This isn't a metroid game. It doesn't have the same feel as any of the other games at all. You should feel completely alone. On your last legs. With only yourself to depend on. Instead you are a whiny little girl the whole time. Chattin away with your buddies. Plowing through the world without a care to stop and look for anything.
and the story sucks.

Its not that the game has a story, its that the story sucks, people who are really into the Metroid series were very much looking forward to learning more about the universe, instead they have to sit through poor dialogue and whiny characters, something Nintendo does not do often mind you, but still a little upsettingAznKhmerBoi wrote:all the reviewers been bashing this game on one concept>>>>> STORY<<<<<<

Just finished, working on the postgame. That's right, Metroid has a postgame now. You go back to the station for a purpose, which hasn't been out and out revealed to me, but I have a general idea of what it is based on where I need to go. Also, similar to Zero Mission the last item you get is the power bombs. Unlike Zero Mission you don't get a chance to then use them to explore the last parts of the station; instead I get to use them now, in my second foray through the station.
Really, the game is Fusion. Most of the non-story complaints were pretty identical to the complaints leveraged against Fusion. And while this does give some more background on the character of Adam in Fusion, as well as potentially explaining how they had a frozen Ridley, there's also a SHITTON of questions that have been raised (and I'm hoping at least a few get answered before I'm done with the postgame). But I know several of them won't be answered, for reasons I won't post due to their spoiler nature.
Also, the space jump isn't a space jump, unfortunately. It's the Echoes Screw Attack but you can do it as many times as you want and can shift direction in midair. You can't use it to get as much vertical height as you'd like.
All in all, it was pretty good. Certainly not the best, but a pretty decent Metroid game overall. I also am not seeing Samus as being "whiny". Really, to me it seems the game has fleshed out her character by showing that she has emotion, and isn't just a cold killing machine.
