as much as they tout it as an improvement, i'm skeptical until i hold it in my hands. THe d pad has always been awful. That is really the only reason to buy it, and it is double the price of a black controller on amazon... so... yeah... it'll have to be a really good d-pad.

The d pad doesnt look all that much better.

Plus only bundeling it with a lame play and charge kit is such a waste.

Do they not want to sell individual batteries anymore?

I'm still skeptical but will be trying it out at PAX to see how much the d-pad has improved.

Love that they're finally doing an improved d-pad even though it's *very* late in the game to be doing so. People have been complaining for five years, that's a long time to ignore them. I was pinning my hopes on the Razer Onza, but it looks like this new controller from MS will beat it to market. Although I'm not sure how much better the layout on the Onza would be anway. I believe it's supposed to be around the same price point as the MS controller + battery, which is hard to swallow for a wired peripheral.

I don't understand why MS has decided to go with silver so soon after rebadging the 360 S models with that nice black scheme. I'm not fussed about removing the button colours, but going with an entirely different colour scheme (and not having them available to bundle with the new system) .. I dunno.

In my opinion they should (and likely will at some point) sell them minus the play 'n charge. Like most people that have been 360 owners in the past five years, we own most of the accessories already, and that's a dick move. Sure, you can have the controller that finally corrects what's been wrong for five years, but you have to buy it with something else. Riiiiiiiiiight.

Overall my thoughts are positive, but the colour choice and the bundling are still lame. Especially right after announcing the price increase for live.

Duke or Controller S?

Controller S. Let's pretend the Duke doesn't exist.

Regardless of what the texture on the surface of the pad feels like, this will not fix the problem. The basic problem is that your thumb is a good half-inch away from the component that makes contact with the board inside the controller. It's a barrel not a pad. That's why it rolls around to nearby directions when you think you're pressing another direction.

I really do not understand the whole thing. If you are playing arcade games get a stick instead of a new controller. If you are using it for shit like Fallout it works perfectly good for shit like weapon selection. Or buy a fight pad.

I always felt that the location of the d-pad seemed awkward and out of place. So I don't think any minor improvements to it are going to get me excited enough to drop $50+ on a new controller.

They're already hiking up the prices of Live. What the hell else do they want from me?

Ill stick with my Fightpad for my dpad heavy games. Though I long for a stick with reprogrammable buttons so I can play Castle Crashers and Scott Pilgrim properly.
