Oh, well. There's already a couple clones in the works, coming from various countries. It would be difficult for Sony to stop them all, especially here in America, due to the recently-passed DCMA exceptions for legalizing backups and backup devices.

Exactly, Sony can't do shit. The only way they could prosecute is if they had used copyrighted code. According to maxconsole.net they haven't, it's a custom exploit with their own code. AFAIK they haven't used the reference design of the jig so they can't even get them on that. They've been very smart with the exploit.lisalover1 wrote:Oh, well. So it is official we can play pirated copies on the PS3 now? I don't really care for pirating, since I get my games pretty cheap already, and I like collecting them, but homebrew emulators could make me want one of these babies.

My boycott of Sony started when they shut down Lik-Sang and has continued ever since. I haven't broke my boycott even once. If I want to buy a Sony product, I make sure to buy it used so Sony doesn't get any of my money.Niode wrote: Well, actually, new evidence has come to light that the exploit is in fact, psjailbreak's own custom exploit. So Sony don't have a leg to stand on since 'jailbreaking' (I hate that word) is now legal for personal use. Then again, suing innocent people is what Sony do best. *cough* Lik-Sang.
Yes, I'm still bitter that Lik-Sang got shut down by Sony, cancelling my pre-order for a Japanese Wii with them since December 2005... They closed in October 2006, literally 6 weeks before I would get my Wii... FUCK YOU SONY.
There have been numerous other reasons for me to boycott Sony since Lik-Sang, but since I am already boycotting them, they only served to remind me of my boycott.
Thanks, Sony! Thank you for making sure I continue to boycott you. Just when I think I might wanna buy a new Sony product, you pull some new bullshit to convince me otherwise.

Sony just released this notice:

I find it funny how companies always find some way to make everything sound like an advertisement.Sony wrote:We will not be providing further commentary with regards to this case; however, as we always have we will continue to take necessary actions from both hardware and software to protect the intellectual property of the content offered on the PS3 system.

They always make it sound like it's for the 'good of the consumer' which is a load of fucking shit. It's to protect their bottom line, every single time. I hate it when they say that they're improving security for the good of the user. It's a load of fucking shit. The vast majority of times they're introducing even more arcane DRM systems to hinder the consumer with. Or in Sony's case, removing features from the console over it's life span.lisalover1 wrote:Sony just released this notice:I find it funny how companies always find some way to make everything sound like an advertisement.Sony wrote:We will not be providing further commentary with regards to this case; however, as we always have we will continue to take necessary actions from both hardware and software to protect the intellectual property of the content offered on the PS3 system.

well to be fair a mod chip not installed properly good damage your console. Plus they might be able to track how this thing works and ban you from PSN which would mean no online play which would be bad for the consumer.Niode wrote:

But those are the only examples I can think of. Of course they only care for their bottom line. You think Super Markets care for the consumer when they have special deals? If they could they'd sell you expired milk.

Hey if Microsoft can do it. Only Nintendo lets you play online with a pirated Wii.AppleQueso wrote:Sony's protecting you from them maybe banning youZeroAX wrote:Plus they might be able to track how this thing works and ban you from PSN which would mean no online play which would be bad for the consumer.
I don't understand what right they have to ban you though. It's not like they are hosting their own servers. It's peer to peer......and yet people pay for this kind of multiplayer.

First we have to find out if Sony can detect this modchip.
