How Did You Become a Sega or Nintendo Fanboy?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

I'd never describe myself as a fan boy, as I have no allegiance to any company. However, I constantly found myself owning all the Nintendo machines, as the games I wanted to play were on these systems.

My first machine was a CPC 464, which came 3rd to its peers. Then I got am Atari St, which also flopped. Next I got a megadrive and this time I picked a winner. I know owning the most popular system isnt the be all and end all but its pretty shit when all the games dissappear from the shelves when the system that you have got fails or you want to borrow some different games off your friend but you cant becuase they all got the other one.

I clearly remember getting the megadrive and playing Road Rash for the first time and sega had me hooked from that day, sure Mario Kart was pretty cool and I was blown away by Street fighter, but they werent good enough to stop me buying a Saturn.

Daniel Primed's and my own story are almost identical - except it was only two families on my motherside. One cousin was a huge Sega fan so they had them all. But Zelda was really what grabbed me on the NES and it has held me for so long.

I became a Nintendo fan boy back in the early 90's because I never cared for sports games, That was supposedly what Genesis had going for it back then, I liked the lineup of games on the Nintendo platforms a lot better, Hell I can probably name 20 games I love for the SNES but would be hard pressed to find 10 for the Genesis

Star Fox
SMW
Stunt Race FX
DKC
Mega Man X
Legend Of Zelda
Super Metroid
Mario Kart
R-Type
Super Punch Out
Chrono Trigger
Desert Strike
Street Fighter
F-Zero
Killer Instinct
Mortal Kombat
Super Castlevania IV
Super Mario All Stars

Ok so maybe not 20 ....lol

Anyways I never really cared for the Genesis, I mean I owned one but I had the Sega Channel so I had no need to buy games for it. I bought games for the SNES and basically rented them over TSC for the Genesis. When Sega started releasing a ton of addons for the Genesis I saw through it and refused Sega Products from that point on. I mean common how many freaking addons did the Genesis Have...

Sega CD
Sega 32X
Sega CD-X

I just decided to ignore Sega from that point on, I went and bought every nintendo console that came out, but only about 2 years ago did I actually pick up a Saturn and a Dreamcast.

If I were trapped on a island , and I could only take 1 console with every game made for that console......I would pick the SNES and its entire game lineup :)

But thats me

For me the war was first between the MD and the PC Engine. Me and my brother settled on the PC Engine. Eventually I got the MD with Altered Beast and Moonwalker. And from there my love for Sega began.

I was amazed when I first saw Mario World though and I sold my MD to get a Snes...And then when I saw Sonic 2 that made me buy another MD again!

But to cut a long story short, I'm a pure Sega fanboy! (even today I am one....which is tough)

first i was hooked on the atari 2600, then the nes came out and i played the hell outta that. then i got the snes and had loads of fun with that. then a buddy of mine got a genesis and i got to see mortal kombat uncensored without heading down to the arcade and blowing my allowance every weekend. so then i got a genesis and later a sega cd (traded my snes and all my games for it--what a waste). after the sega cd, i lost all interest in sega and avoided the saturn and dreamcast like the plague and got an n64.

now i just love all of them. so to recap:

nintendo fanboy -> sega fanboy -> nintendo fanboy -> all around classic gaming fanboy

My first sytem was an Odyssey 2 and my brother and I used to type dirty words in it when our babysitter was over. Then she'd get mad and we'd play her in Combat and she'd laugh at us when she won.

We couldn't afford a Master System so we bided our time.
Then we finally one fateful X-mas day got an NES and it took over our lives.
"You wanna play hide and seek?" other kids would ask. HECK NO!!!

Then my brother got SNES and wouldn't let me play it, so I bought a Genesis and I was a hard core SEGA fan. Sega channel anyone? But then I soon convinced my brother to take turns and realized that each system had it advantages. Sega had Shining Force, Nitendo had Squaresoft!!! I couldn't choose. And thus I became a free agent, neither allying myself with either of the two forces.

Nintedo is a prude, SEGA can be a jerk, but both are invited to my house parties.

Saturn and dreamcast have the best shmups.
N64 has Zelda and Mario!
Wish I could had a NEO Geo, but i ripped it up in the arcade!
What about PS1! Best rpg system ever, but that's another discussion!

So i agree with cowgod's "all around classic gaming fanboy" description.
There is a place for all systems in my arcade.
