Saturn resets when using the action replay?
So I have never had any issues with my saturn. I installed a mod chip today but took it back out because I damaged it trying to seat it better so another is on the way. Also I bought a brand new AR cart from sega style and decided to test it. I was using a mint copy of Shinobi with no issues and then after beating the first level it reset to the cd player. I played again anyway thinking it was a fluke. I paused it on the second level to go get a drink since I can't find a save function. come back 5 minutes later and it has reset again! Took cart out and so far no issues. Anyone else had this problem? I can see no problems with the cart slot and it doesn't even look used before.

Try cleaning the CD lens. It doesn't do this with any other games?
Re: Saturn resets when using the action replay?
Pretty odd. I have an Action Replay cart in my Saturn and have recently played Shinobi on it without that problem, so I can at least rule out any incompatibility issue. The only time I've had that happen to me is when I try to play a game that was burned improperly.
Re: Saturn resets when using the action replay?
My speculation is that the AR is fine, but there's an error reading the game disc which resets the console. That would explain why the Saturn, after it resets, views the disc as audio tracks. Do you don't get the message "this disc is unsuitable for this console" which would mean you have a game that's not the same region as your console. If the AR is flaking out, this is the message you would get.
If you don't have this message, that means the system cannot read the disc, which means you need to clean the lens or the disc is damaged... or the lens is damaged but let's hope that's not the case.
It would be helpful if you could try out another retail game that is the same region as the console with out the AR plugged in. In fact, try a few games out (unless you already have).
