What do you call a GameCube? GCN or NGC?

I already made a topic on the Sony/Microsoft board about the Playstation names but this is something else I want cleared up.

Do you abbreviate a GameCube to GCN or NGC? I'm pretty sure that here in America the acronym is GCN, but it doesn't make any sense. I always thought that NGC was a better usage (Nintendo GameCube) and not GCN (GameCube Nintendo). That would be like calling a Nintendo 64 a 64N as opposed to N64.

Does anyone know why its backwards?

Because of people and their abbreviations. It doesn't really matter.

I think NGC was already taken (Neo Geo Color? I'm not sure). Anyway, GCN is just what Nintendo themselves used to abbreviate it, so everyone got used to it.

I use NGC. I think the Neo-Geo one is NGPC.

I grew with GCN, and for some reason, hate whenever I see NGC.

Nice find. Still it doesn't answer why they chose GCN instead of NGC. As others mentioned, maybe it was already used?
