Sony removing OtherOS feature in 3.21 PS3 update
Re: Sony removing OtherOS feature in 3.21 PS3 update
It's rather funny how it took so long to get the PS3 pirated but the jailbreaking method is so non-invasive.

artist's mistake? Or it's using a wireless connection via wifi to send the image to the tv.MrPopo wrote:

Well from what I can see, it's an ARM. So I'm assuming that it's a copy of the recovery stick that Sony use to flash PS3s with corrupted firmware. You wouldn't be able to simply use a memory stick to achieve the same thing. However, if somebody were to extract the contents of the flash memory on the ARM it would be pretty easy to make a copy. It's a dead simple board layout that could be easily built at home. I'd be confident in making my own if I had the software to flash the chip with.benderx wrote:I thought there was two device to psjailbrake, an actual modchip and usb stick. Its good to know its a some kind of usb drive only. I did find out what was inside of that jailbrake device. I can't believe that device is worth that much, it looks like crap from the inside. im also wondering if I can get any usb drive and add the important instead wasting a lot money. 1 year warranty seems kind of not good enough for me.
Edit: The chip in question is this: http://www.microchip.com/wwwproducts/De ... e=en010293

Today I'm hearing about PS Jailbreak could be easily dump. WO_oW
http://www.maxconsole.net/content.php?4 ... ily-Dumped
Also found out psjailrake is just a usb thingy and no need for actual modchip solder inside the ps3. Which is good just a usb.
A few days ago I found this picture with Geohot, Dark Alex, and somebody else. I tried dinding it online but found nothing not even in firefox history. I have a feeling Geohot, Dark Alex, and some body else were probably working on psjailbrake, its my guess. It was either a dutch, spanish/ french website.

This certainly bodes well for the future of PS3 homebrew. It is a powerful machine, and I would really like to see what emulators are possible for it.
Re: Sony removing OtherOS feature in 3.21 PS3 update
Don't count on anything terribly useable just yet. You need the SDK to compile pkgs for the PS3, so unless somebody creates some tools from scratch like they did the PS2, it's going to be illegal to distribute anything made with the official SDK, not to mention the illegality of acquiring the SDK without a licence. It never stopped the xbox mind...lisalover1 wrote:This certainly bodes well for the future of PS3 homebrew. Personally I'm hoping for something along the lines of the original xbox in terms of functionality. It would become my under TV emulation station. Something it was before Sony decided to be a bag of dicks and remove Other OS support FOR NO FUCKING REASON.

Surely they've got a good idea of inner workings after the Hypervisor hack? As far as I can tell they've already been through the back door, they just couldn't get out of the front one. Now that someone had strolled through that I think we'll see some cool stuff happen relativity quickly... The SDK has been known for a while. if we can somehow get back to linux...Niode wrote: Don't count on anything terribly useable just yet. If this adds freaking .mkv support AND/OR ps2 backwards compatibility I'm sold.
Kind to think of it, since Dreamcast games are coming to the PSN, you guys think it would be possible to play Dreamcast games on GD-rom on the PS3? That would be cool.
