I've been thinking about getting a Japanese Megadrive. Anyone know any good games that never made it to the US? So far, I'm interested in:
Yu Yu Hakusho Gaiden
Yu Yu Hakusho Makyo Toitsusen
Alien Soldier
Sorcerian
Hokuto no Ken: Shin Seikimatsu Kyuseishu Densetsu
I know the Hokuto no Ken game is just Last Battle, but I don't really like how the colors and character's names were changed. Any suggestions are fine, I'm looking for shoot em ups/run and guns or fighters though.

Re: Japan only Megadrive games
Hokuto No Ken did must more than do a color swap and name changes when it went to Last Battle, it toned down the violence a great deal. Specifically instead of having the enemies fly off screen then stopped in mid air, had their head explode then their body. I covered it in one of my episodes

Also, I would check out Dahna. It's a pretty nifty hack and slash fighter with some really nice set pieces. You start out on the back of a giant troll than can crush enemies, but that is very short lived. After that you are off and running. Pretty good stuff.

I totally misread that last one. I thought it was Twinkie Tale. Which now that I think about it would be pretty sweet. Think about it, you get to control Twinkie the Kid as he rides around in the old west and shoot healthy food. I'd play it...

Not sure of your Japanese skillz, but these are great ones, even if you're not tight with kanji.
Shoot 'em ups
Eliminate Down
Gley Lancer (also downloadable on Wii Virtual console)
Panorama Cotton
Twinkle Tale (worth another mention!)
Platformers
Monster World IV
Pulseman (also downloadable on Wii Virtual console)

Re: Japan only Megadrive games
I can read Japanese decently, so don't hesitate to recommend text heavy games. I'm sure I can stumble through it. Eliminate Down, Gley Lancer, Pulseman and Dahna seem like pretty cool ones. Forgot to check the virtual console too, I remember them having some Japanese games downloadable. Thanks for the responses.

Re: Japan only Megadrive games
I have some Japanese MD carts on my trade pile. Some games I got in a lot and one is an RTS and will require reading so it doesn't interest me. Just throwing these up here in case you're interested in any of them.
Advanced Daisenryaku
Curse
Fatal Fury 2
Ka Ge Ki
Rocket Knight Adventures - doesn't work in a Gen 3 or with a game genie on a US system but looks ok. Maybe this is a region protected game?
Shining and the Darkness
Street Fighter II Plus
Super Monaco GP

Re: Japan only Megadrive games
I have interest in a few of them, but I don't think enough to trade or buy. Yu Yu Hakusho Makyou Toitusen on the other hand... I'm willing to do some trading for that one. It's apparently a super rare one, and it's a fantastic game too. Is there a chance anyone here feels like letting that one go? I've got some decent trade-worthy stuff. I'd buy it too.

Good for you, buddy. I wish I were so skilled. One of these days. With basic Japanese in mind, I'd recommend adding:brunoafh wrote:I can read Japanese decently, so don't hesitate to recommend text heavy games. I'm sure I can stumble through it. Hybrid Front
Langrisser II (again, worth another mention!)
That will add some nice strategy and tactical RPG action to your assortment.
