Wonderboy vs. Wonderboy MD/MS
Wonderboy vs. Wonderboy MD/MS
So is Wonderboy in Monster World for MD just a better looking version of Wonderboy III: Dragon's Trap for MS? Or are they significantly different games? I am trying to decide which to purchase on VC. One is cheaper, one looks better, but are they the same game? And what's up with Dragon's Curse on TG16. Same game as well?

in the past I've probably read this article like 5 times. Still a bit confusing. AND it doesn't even touch on the Adventure Island stuff too thoroughly!

If you're trying to make sense out of the Wonder Boy series, you're not going to get very far.noiseredux wrote:in the past I've probably read this article like 5 times. Still a bit confusing. AND it doesn't even touch on the Adventure Island stuff too thoroughly!

To answer the question, Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap and Wonder Boy in Monster World are completely different games.
Dragon's Curse and Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap are the same game.
The Dynastic Hero and Wonder Boy in Monster World are the same game.
The Dragon's Trap is better than Monster World. Buy that one.

now get this, Wonderboy and Adventure Island are the same game with different sprites. However Wonderboy II and Adventure Island II are completely different games. To further complicate things Adventure Island is also the title given to the Game Boy port of Adventure Island II. And then the Game Boy game Adventure Island II was actually a port of Adventure Island III. Get it?

The Dynastic Hero on the Turbo Duo is actually Wonder Boy in Monster World, but with better music. Also, Wonder Boy and Adventure Island are the same game, but Nintendo required a name change for it to be released on the NES, while it retained its original title on the Master System. Thus, the Adventure Island games became their own independent series on the NES.noiseredux wrote:now get this, Wonderboy and Adventure Island are the same game with different sprites.
