GameStop does also sell new games, true. But very reluctantly. Any time you ask for a new game the person will suggest a used copy for $1.50 less.

why do people shop from gamestop? :S:S:S:S:S I don't understand it. I've never bought a used game that isn't at least 2/3 the original asking price.

And if the gaming industry find gamestop's policy so bad (which it is, if what I'm reading here is true), they should just sue them, OR band together and stop sending gamestop games. 2-3 high profile releases where they don't have any games to sell and they are dead.

What I find unfair, is that many other retailers that sell used games do so at a much better price (both buying the used game and selling it) and they have the used games in a completely different shelf space than the new ones. So those retailers and their clients shouldn't have to suffer because the gaming industry can't put gamestop in it's place.

As I said sue them, the used product could be inferior, isn't it a form of scamming the way they push the used games?

Can we get together and get this man some kind of a trophy or award? Because THAT is the 100% truth that should be obvious to the video game industry. These game companies can't be running around thinking that there is something artificial or controllable about their market; Used games are a FACT and they need to just deal with it.

If they can't...then they don't need to be in the videogame business. Plain and simple.

It's a mixed bag. Sometimes I find a real gem that costs way less than it should. Sometimes I find a game where the savings are found in dodging a shipping fee from shopping online.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Is GameStop really as bad as people say it is? I buy games there. The staff is friendly and they have a good selection. I can't really find anything to complain about. Like mentioned earlier, it's just convenient. There is a GameStop within a 5 mile radius of my house and my workplace.

Aside from the ugly gamestop cases and their insistence on using a lot of stickers, I personally find gamestop to be a great store. I like the fact there are 3 locations close to my workspace and another 3 locations close to where I do a lot of shopping. I find the staff to always be helpful. Maybe it's because I'm not a young punk?

If you don't like Gamestop used purchase prices, you don't need to sell/trade your games to them. If you don't like their prices, then don't buy from them. Pretty simple, eh?

I still don't understand why hardcore gamers shop at retail stores. Online retailers are much much cheaper.

I don't see the correlation.

Anyway, my impatience far outweighs my desire to save a couple of bucks and wait a few days.

really? I wait 5-6 months and get new games at half and even 1/3 the launch price. Totally worth it. So what if I'm 6 months behind everyone. I have 2 to 3 games to play when others only have 1 :P:P:P:P:D:D:D:D

and also, hardcore gamers are supposed to be the ones who spend their time reading about video games on the internet, is it that hard to find some cheap online stores while they are at it?

Here are some deals that I've gotten from gamestop:

Gamecube BBA - $2, online - $30+
PS2 Network Adapter - $15, online $25-$35
Gamecube Wavebird - $18, online $30+
GBA soft cases - $1-$2
Boktai - $6, online $10+

There are deals to be had at gamestop if you know your prices. Other times, the convenience of getting it in person outweighs the cost of the few extra dollars.

I dislike gamestop because they drive out the small places who treat the consumer much more fairly. I also find the downloadable in game gamestop pre-order exclusives to be extremely disturbing.

But as for the actual topic of the thread, publishers should find a way to charge less for their games. More people will buy new if the new games are cheaper, and everybody will be happy.
