Speaking completely objectively, anyone that calls Panzer Dragoon Saga "crap" is out of their fucking mind. I can't rule out the possibility of someone not liking it, by under what pretense could someone call it "crap"? That sounds like someone with an axe to grind.

I think this query merits its own topic.

It is an outstanding experience that, as I've said on a few occassions, should have been placed on the very same pedestal as Half-Life, Metal Gear Solid, and Ocarina of Time by major publications as 1998's Best Games of the Year.

Actually, in 1998 I distinctly remember EGM giving Panzer Dragoon Saga top honors, saying that it was a better game than even Final Fantasy VII. I remember this specifically, because it was that very article that had me call Electronics Boutique to reserve the very last copy of the game they had.

I found the quote, from issue 107 in June of 1998: "Yes I think it's even better than the almighty Final Fantasy Vll (blasphemy!)"

I'd play it just about any day over FFVII.

I have played Saga, and I'll get a review out eventually. It is a beautiful game with a surreal world, interesting story, and, unlike pretty much every other jrpg I've played, great characters which (usually) actually behave like normal human beings and won't annoy you. It also has remarkably unchallenging and, once you get the hang of it, uninspiring gameplay. I was never once worried about dying until the last battle, and I never did die, not once, in my entire playthrough.
If you want to power through a game and enjoy it, DO NOT PLAY THIS GAME... EVER!!!!!
If you want to explore a unique and beautiful world, YOU MUST PLAY THIS GAME!!!!!!!

That is my opinion: beautiful, but flawed. Feel free to disagree, but I doubt that anybody will contest my opinion on its lack of challenge.

Hm, well, I think that terms so black and white as "beautiful, but flawed" are a bit misleading, but I agree with your individual points. I don't really feel like its relaxed level of challenge is a flaw persay, so much as it is something you either appreciate or don't... I'd feel like the flow was interrupted by having to go back and start over. The fact that I wasn't having to watch cut-scenes over was a plus for me given the nature of the game, but I understand that that's completely subjective. Like you said, it depends what you're going in for -- and if atmosphere and immersion are anywhere NEAR the top of your want-list in gaming, then it's a title well-worthy of praise.
