I have all three systems and my PS3 gets the most play, followed by the 360, followed by the Wii. I don't have a Gold account but have still had a lot of fun with some of the exclusives and better-quality single player corss-platform games. If you at all like shmups, go with the 360.
Here's what I'd suggest
New "Retro-Style" Games: Wii>360/PS3
RPGs: PS3>360>Wii
Shmups: 360>Wii>PS3
Fighters: 360/PS3>Wii
FPS: PS3(free online)>360>Wii
Puzzle: Wii>360>PS3
Indie Games: 360>PS3/Wii
Platformers: Wii>PS3>360
Sports: PS3>360>Wii
Should I buy an Xbox 360?
Re: Should I buy an Xbox 360?
I personally give fighters an edge on the PS3 over the 360, on account of the PS3 d-pad and the number of controller options - plus free online. Still, a pretty good check list.

$300 and don't know what to do????????
Well, how about hitting a strip joint? Sure it's a complete waste of money but I had fun going when I was 18.
Why not take a date skydiving?
Go high-speed go-karting (60mph or better).
Take a cheap trip somewhere you've never been but always wanted to (cheap depends on where you live).
Rent a Ferrari for an hour.
Get great seats for a concert.
Or just anything that is an experience instead of contemplating your umpteenth game purchase sounds like more what you need chappy~

Re: Should I buy an Xbox 360?
I know everybody's view on emulators is different - but since I hacked my Wii and put the ROMS of all the NES, SNES, Gameboy, GBA, Genesis, and Atari 2600 games I own on there it has actually become my most played system. Especially if you have an HDTV it almost completely eliminates input lag and upconverts stuff to boot. The N64 emulator is still in beta - but Starfox64 and Mario 64 actually run better on the Homebrew emulators than they do on the Virtual Console. Plus it eliminates a TON of clutter from my wiring in the living roomI own a Wii already. And I don't want to insult you or anyone who likes the Wii but personally it's the biggest waste of money I've spent in a long time.
I'm just sayin'...
More to the point though - 360 has some great exclusives, but how worth it they are to play is another story.
Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, Limbo, Beautiful Katamari, Bayonetta (not exclusive but much better on 360), Alan Wake, Death Smiles, Ikaruga (also available on GameCube but not HD), Crackdown, Gears of War series, Shadow Complex, etc.
Not all of those will likely appeal to you, but there's a decent stable of great exclusives. I own both PS3 and 360 and haven't regretted it - though there is obviously a billion crossover games. You just need to decide if it's worth it.

If you literally want a Convection Oven, get a 360. Im not sure how much the newer 360 has improved with the heat ventilation, but the old 360 is garbage. Good games, garbage hardware. Ive never had a system overheat, other than the 360. and a Jtagged 360 is even worse.
The PS3 gets the yellow light of death, but once its fixed, it stays fixed.
Inside the white case of the Xbox 360, the mother board is encased in another metal case, which holds in the heat in even more. The fans do nothing for it. Test your systems out much Microsoft?
If you do get a 360, take ur chances on getting a newer one. If not, its RROD for sure.

DAMMIT! Just buy an Xbox 360 already!
Re: Should I buy an Xbox 360?
dude you took the words out of my mouth, Dead Rising, EDF, Alan Wake, Virtual On OT, and Rez HD are the only games you'll be missing out on, Gears of War 1 is also on PC, so just put that extra cash towards a gaming PC and you'll join the PS3/PC master racethe7k wrote:I was planning to get an Xbox 360 myself, but I ended up putting that money towards a Gaming PC instead. With a Gaming PC and a PS3, there's only a few games I'm missing out on, but I'm pretty sure I'll be able to find them after its gone out of style.
If I did get a 360, I know I'd definitely get Dead Rising, Earth Defense Force 2017, Death Smiles and maybe Alan Wake. Castle Crashers would have been another to add to that list, but it'll eventually come to the PS3. Aside from those and a few XBLA Indie Games, not much that I'd be very interested in.
