hypothetically speaking, if the panzer dragoon saga was ported to the 64 and ps1 i guarantee it wouldn't get the praise that it does. and therefore, the saturn wouldn't get the praise that it does.
No really....Have you ever played Panzer Dragoon Saga.I bought a Saturn just to play that game and was surprised by the quality of the rest of the games/

i have never played the game. hell, i don't think i have ever seen any footage of it either.Arbitern1 wrote: No really....Have you ever played Panzer Dragoon Saga?
but whenever people bring up the saturn somebody always has to get a raging boner over the greatness of panzer dragoon saga. and the consensus is always the same: GREATEST GAME EVER...PERIOD. this could mean two things: the game actually is as great as everybody makes it out to be or people are influenced by the price tag, rarity, etc. for example, the game is probably good, but when the demand, price tag, and 'rarity' of the game are thrown into the equation it probably influences what people think about it.
it is like mario bros 2. when the game first came out people hated it because it was nothing like the first mario bros. but if the game had a different title and a different cast of characters the game probably would have been very well received initially.
so what do you think of the game. is it as great as everybody makes it out to be? is it worth the 200 dollars?

I don't understand the relevence of the Super Mario Bros. 2 comparison, but otherwise I understand your train of thought here. Let me put it this way, I got a discs-only copy for $125, which is an insane deal (apparently the discs are scratched? I don't know, they look and play fine) but still, I can understand how me paying that price could change the psychological effect it has on me ("Well, If I PAID this much, it must be WORTH this much"), but I've talked to people who've played burnt and emulated versions of it and gush about it as well.final fight cd wrote:i have never played the game. hell, i don't think i have ever seen any footage of it either.Arbitern1 wrote: No really....Have you ever played Panzer Dragoon Saga?

It's basically like if you were to mix an excellently-paced RPG storyline, a synthesis of turn-based and strategy-based battles that remain fresh and fun throughout the game, and an outrageously engrossing atmosphere defined by the epic soundtrack and environment which combines the design sensibilities of Naausica: The Valley of the Wind's landscapes and culture with Ecco the Dolphin's sense of loneliness and desolation. It is an outstanding experience that, as I've said on a few occassions, should have been placed on the very same pedestal as Half-Life, Metal Gear Solid, and Ocarina of Time by major publications as 1998's Best Games of the Year.
I think that's a good way to put its quality into perspective -- it deserves to be mentioned with equal reverance in video gaming discussion as H-L, MGS, and OoT. Is it worth the 200 dollars? As much as those games would be worth 200 dollars if they commanded such prices. It truly is gaming's hidden masterwork -- although we hear about it a ton being hardcore retro enthusiasts and whatnot, it is an absolute tragedy that the general gaming public missed out on it, and it deserves the praise it garners.

This should really speak for itself. I'm actually in the same boat but I wouldn't knock a game that I have never even tried to play. How could you say it's overrated or crap if you have no clue whatsoever what it is actually like?final fight cd wrote:i have never played the game. hell, i don't think i have ever seen any footage of it either.Arbitern1 wrote: No really....Have you ever played Panzer Dragoon Saga?

Re: Saturn the worst console ever? You have got to be kidding
I honestly don't think that Panzer Dragoon Saga being expensive is making people see it as any better of a game.
When NbA 2 Ball sold for a high as hell price, people didn't think it was a better game because of it. Bubble Bath Babes may be the most expensive puzzle game around, but I doubt many will consider it even among the Top 50.
Besides, I get a strong feeling that most the people who play PDS these days are playing burnt copies. Let's be honest, only the most hardcore of collectors will pay that much for a game that can obtained at a fraction of the price with a modchip and a bunch of blank discs.

I understand how you feel, it is expensive. I do wish it was ported to the Playstation so more people could have played it. It is definitely one of the best RPG's i have ever played. I normally don't believe the hype when it comes to games like PDS, but it is a great game.final fight cd wrote:i have never played the game. hell, i don't think i have ever seen any footage of it either.Arbitern1 wrote: No really....Have you ever played Panzer Dragoon Saga?

Actually, in 1998 I distinctly remember EGM giving Panzer Dragoon Saga top honors, saying that it was a better game than even Final Fantasy VII. I remember this specifically, because it was that very article that had me call Electronics Boutique to reserve the very last copy of the game they had.Original_Name wrote:It is an outstanding experience that, as I've said on a few occassions, should have been placed on the very same pedestal as Half-Life, Metal Gear Solid, and Ocarina of Time by major publications as 1998's Best Games of the Year.
I found the quote, from issue 107 in June of 1998: "Yes I think it's even better than the almighty Final Fantasy Vll (blasphemy!)"
