I'm playing Star Control II on the 3DO at the moment, and I was curious if SC3 was any good. I checked out Metacritic, which I usually find pretty useful. This time, the metacritic reviews average out to an 89/100. The user reviews average out to 3.1/10. There's an obvious disparity there.
So who's right. SC3 wasn't created by the same people who did SC2, but is it really a turd? I'm sure it's not as good as SC2, but would it be a waste of time to play it?

I thought the same thing, SC2 is so great how could SC3 be that bad. Well I loaded it up and sure enough it was. Everything in it just felt off. I could live with the game feeling off, but not the controls. Loose controls in Star Control = terrible.
