The Sega Saturn is so quiet...
The Sega Saturn is so quiet...
I'm always amazed by how quiet the Saturn runs (I accidentily left mine on overnight) and compared to how much louder all the optical disc consoles have been since (the Gamecube is pretty quite though). And it's not like the Saturn wasn't running high-end hardware at the time...

I always thought this was a great aspect of the Saturn. The PS1 apparently had some pretty common overheating issues, and you could always hear the disc spinning, even during gameplay.racketboy wrote:I'm always amazed by how quiet the Saturn runs (I accidentily left mine on overnight) and compared to how much louder all the optical disc consoles have been since (the Gamecube is pretty quite though). It was a pretty well built system. I often hear people say that Saturns last a long time

Yeah, it did some things extremely well, it never deserved the rap it got.
I also remember the internal clock in it would go way past 2000, which at the time made me wonder why Y2K was going to be a big deal when sega had clearly already figured out the problem.

Because Sega could see the future, that's why they tried to push online gaming with the Dreamcast
Too bad they couldn't foresee any of their own mistakes

Yeah I too find the Saturn very quiet. It's incredible really. I can't think of many other disc based systems quieter than the Saturn. And to think how much louder the Dreamcast is too.

I never noticed...probably because it's so quiet. But when I fire up my 360....

...too quiet. It must be up to something.
