What Are Your Goals In Game Collecting?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Having more choices is always a good thing.
BTW, we are having the same issue with all types of media (writing, video, music) now that the Internet has changed everything. In fact, I want to say there is a book about this phenomena.
Can I get a link to download that book? I have a large PDF collection.

Not sure what it is -- I just think I've seen it at one point or another...

Forgot to add in my prior post to repair/replace my Colecovision as the video is scrambled. I haven't torn it apart yet to try and fix it. I also need new controllers, and would like to get a real 2600 instead of using the expansion module on the Coleco. Add a few more games to my collection and I'll be happier.

I totally know what you mean.
It's just like how we all used to treasure every game we could get our hands on when we were kids -- even if they weren't that good.

Now that we have emulation and piracy at a fingertips, we can flip between games whenever we feel like it :)
We used to treasure crappy games because it was what we could afford as kids and had to look for the good things in them. Remember my first ps1 game was one of the cheapest in the store an enjoyable hellicopter sim that I don't ever wan't to play again.

I played the demo disc that came with the console till death. It had a demo of metal gear, gran turismo and other cool "new" games at that time.

I had a pile of demo disks for saturn and played every bit of life out of them too. Do current gen consoles still do disks? or do you download the demos now?

Buying a game used to be a major decision as a new one would only come along twice a year, i would pore over the magazine and try to beg the game of a friend to test it out, then finally examine my collection to see what genres were lacking. Actually not much has changed, I still do that now for the DS games that I buy, but at least I can go out and get half a dozen saturn games for a tenner without too much thought

I don't know about the Wii, but I know you download demos for 360 and PS3.
Same goes for the DS as well. I love the DS demo thing -- I just kinda feel weird pulling my DS out in a store to download a demo.
