I could be wrong, but I think Octopod was actually referring to the tight immigration restrictions that a lot of countries have. Many countries such as New Zealand which have very strong social services programs have much tighter immigration restrictions than the United States. Often, they'll only take you if you offer a skill that they particularly need, and if you're above a certain age, you're completely out of luck. I believe this is somewhat true in the United States, but to a much lesser extent.

So I guess it was blocked by a federal judge.

I think it's just an injunction. It could still come back once the court case is settled.

This law will be on hold until the obama administration can shut it down. It's just Arizona trying to make a point. Hopefully the new federal immigration standards will be better after all of this.

Hopefully Arizona will prevail. This whole debacle is an embarrassment.
