Thoughts on Deadly Premonition

Post by Ack »

The local Hastings has a copy of Deadly Premonition for Xbox 360 for $20. I'm interested in picking it up, but have any of you ever tried it out? Do you feel the game's worth the money?

And while we're at it, what other current-gen survival horror have you found worth looking into? I had a good time with Dead Space, but Condemned 2 was an outright failure when compared to the first for me.

Funnily, that's the full price of the game.

Yeah, I found that out after I looked it up. Didn't realize it was a budget title. I'm still interested.

Deadly Premonition is literally Twin Peaks the video game.

I'm not lying, the freaking story and game play out like a lost episode of the series with some extra moments of that awkward and abstract humor Twin Peaks had at times.

Alan Wake isn't too bad, but it's also a freaking joke.

"We're bringing you Alan Wake to create a unique and new survival; horror gaming experience"

And they gave us a Silent Hill 1 clone on the 360.....

I bought Deadly Premonition not too long ago, its one of those games thats so bad its good, similar to Evil Dead to movies, I mean its not terrible, but it is heavily flawed (controls, dialogue, camera) however it still remains charming, I played for only a little bit and realized the game would be more funny drunk and with friends, so I am waiting till I go back to school to play the rest of it- for the cheap price, I would go for it

I ended up picking this up, and while I've only played five minutes, it seems pretty quirky so far. The controls haven't proven too cumbersome, just old-fashioned, just like the graphics. As a retro survival horror enthusiast, so far so good.

Thread revived. :P

So I'm playing this right now. It's very fun. Combat is a little stiff but it works. The ridiculousness of the characters and their comments is what's keeping me going. The style of writing reminds me of Flower, Sun, and Rain (high-five for anyone who has played that game).

The enemy designs are kind of... generic... The way they walk at you is pretty strange but they're not very threatening. This is pretty much the only survival horror game where I feel safe around the enemies.

Driving cars is where the game falls flat though. The handling is bad on the cars I've tried so far. However I've only driven 2 so maybe I can find one that works out.

I'll post more later.
