What do you think of Wkileaks?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Government itself is a much more immediate threat to the citizens than any foreign terrorist.
But not at the cost of even one soldier's life.

But what about the dead civilians who had lives? Just because someone is an American or a soldier does not make their life any more valuable.

True, but only the soldier there can judge the situation. Soldier's life should never be compromised for the sake of public right to know. There are misconduct in the heat of battle, but would a civilian or military court judge in fair impartiality of a given situation? A tough call.

I'm not really talking about the stuff like the dead reporter though. I'm talking about the operations that lead to the deaths of hundreds of civilians the Wikileak article reveals. I do not see how that knowledge endangers the soldiers. I think it is more likely that they do not wants us to know because ...well, it is pretty fucked up stuff and they know that support for the war will fall even further if we do know. But also by hiding it they loose trust.

???????????????????????/////////////////

You can't ever see a situation where A government shouldn't tell its citizens, etc, about something?

See: Any Military operation ever
Also see: The Andromeda Strain
Also see I don't have time to type everything.

However there are a few legitimate times when people should find things out IE: It is no longer applicable, government stepped clearly out of bounds.

It isn't your right to know what the government is doing.

I think you misunderstand who is working for who. The government is here to serve us. It is absolutely our right to demand to know what they are doing.

Yes, short answer.

Long answer, something is greater than that right to know(which doesn't exist). Which is more important, Finding out about something that you can't understand or, safety of the citizens? Shit I got an idea.

HEY THOSE ARE FAKE INFLATABLE TANKS ITS A DISTRACTION GUYS, WE WILL FOOL THE GERMANS

HEY WE ONLY HAVE 2 BOMBS. HOPE THE ENEMIES SURRENDER AFTER WE DROP THE FIRST OR SECOND.

Safety of citizens > Citizens right to know. In cases that don't step out of legal bounds, even then you could argue that it was done to protect citizens even if unjustly.

And if you're wondering why I put something from forever ago as an example, was because My post was about a situation that would be harmed if the public knew. But someone said A government should never keep secrets from citizens. Edit Because I clicked submit accidentally.

No, you're wrong. A lot of this has already been quantified:

Foreign Exchange Rates for Humans
by Johnny Debacle

* 15 Gazan Palestinians = 2 kidnapped Israeli soldiers or approximately 1/100th of a young white Alabman woman
* 0.5 young white Alabman women = 5mm Rwandans
* 1 Princess Di is worth 1.25 Africas
* 500 Darfurians are worth approximately 2 US soldiers
* 150,000 South Asian tsunami victims are worth 1800 Southeastern US hurricane victims
* 1 JonBenet Ramsey = .738 Elizabeth Smarts
* 10 US hostages = cargo plane full of “defensive arms”
