need a PS1 s-video cable

Post by kenshin-dono »

hmm i snagged an s-video monster cable for my SNES a while back and it worked good ( i wanted to get the official one but no luck. Got a monster cable from procablesdirect for pretty cheap and it works awesome)

I figured i should get one for my old PS1, but couldn't really find one for cheap. I snagged one from monoprice.com, which usually has good stuff.. but not this time. The picture looks like crap
http://www.monoprice.com/products/produ ... 1&format=2

I even tried putting just the composite cable in and its fuzzier/worse than the standard ps1 composite cable. While the s-video looks grainy and like ass.

Does anyone have any idea what i should snag? I was thinking either trying to hunt down a monster cable, or getting the official ps1 cable ideally. The monster cable i want is the ps2 one i believe, since theres no ps1 version as far as i know the monster version i want is the PS2 Gamelink 300 S-Video cable from monster
http://www.estarland.com/Playstation2.c ... 23333.html

or the official one from sony is model spch-1100 i guess

http://cgi.ebay.com/Sony-Playstation-SC ... 3a5729c7bb

id rather pay around 10-15 bucks and i want a NEW one (so that first link wont work)

does anyone know a good online game site where i can snag one of these? Or any suggestions on another brand for a GOOD quality s-video cable? Normally i dont bother with monster cables but if i can find one cheap like the gamecube cable then im game. Too many s-video cables out there are garbage quality. I should have known something was up when the one i got had a composite cable tacked onto it. Any decent one wouldn't bother with that i would i think

Here ya go!

http://www.amazon.com/s/190-4183838-070 ... lla-search

Just get the Official Sony PS3 one (Works with PS1 and PS2 like all Sony AV Multi-Out cables.) on Amazon, it has a nice crisp and sharp picture. Unless you're connecting your PS3 to a reference quality Standard Def TV such as a Sony Trinitron or an AV receiver you won't see or hear the difference that Monster cables provide.

My two cents:

Can't really go wrong with gamestop, they have tons of used cables that people trade in when upgrading. Pawnshops are hit and miss, especially since you want a new one.

These things work great, sure, you can only have one console plugged in at a time, but it's a lot better than having to unplug the cable from the back of a tv.
If you aren't having a good time, why are you playing?

Three things to remember about the GS option though:

1): 90% of all the idiots out there who frequent GS don't even know what S-Video is

2): 90% Of GS's employees are brain dead and will just trade it in as an everyday AV Cable

3): There's a good chance if you do find and S-Video cable that it's some horrible third party piece of crap, so make sure to inspect any and all cables bought a GS thoroughly before buying. Any nicks in the cable's shielding or extensive wear and tear can also make for noisy awful picture so be sure to check too!

Those things work like crap, they're flimsy, cheap, break easily and the S-Video plugs on these (which is what he's planning on using it for) is notorious for it's pins snapping off inside of an S-Video jack so I wouldn't risk any permanent damage his television. What more would you expect from MadCatz parts re-branded with a GameStop logo!?

A dedicated S-Video cable for just one machine is always going to beat out one of the multi-ended cheapos, in both quality of build and quality of image.

I have one of those. It works fine if you're just using it for the composite cables (I've had mine for probably ~3 years and it hasn't broken or shown any signs of damage), but the S-Video on it is crap. Take Mod_Man's advice and just pick up a dedicated PS S-Video cable.
I'm known as ZebetiteGlitch or Zeza Von Thantos on other platforms.

You are not kidding. Gamestop Gamecube Component Cable SKU:
http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/Product ... t_id=32149

As Modman points out, look yourself when you get to the store. Use the online search as a reference to which gamestops to hit first. As for that Gamecube Component Cable link, usually a N64 S-Video or Wii component cable in the bag. But you never know, might find a surprise 60 dollar cable.

 Yeah, I made a friend of mine shit his pants once when I gave him one I found out of sheer luck at a GS like thirty miles away for his birthday.

(called like 60 stores in a span of two hours)

But anyhow the moral of the story is just keep at it and you'll find a good one at a good price. I believe my GS store still has a brand new set of the nice Monster cable STYLED (aka not the real Monster Cable deal but very close) PS3 S-Video cables that were distributed by MadCatz and in GameStop branding. I used to have a pair and they were pretty good, not as nice looking on screen as the official Sony ones in my opinion, but good for what they were.

what he said. Like i said i want a GOOD s-video cable. NOt a cheap pelican or madcatz one. I have a compnent version of that gamestop thing for my xbox on the old SD that seems to work ok but thats it. I wouldn't get something as posibly delicate as an s-video cable through that, and since the monoprice one was junk i want to make sure i get quality this time

This is a dedicated ps cable like madman says so maybe i'll just snag the official sony ps3 one. Would the official sony ps2 one work as well? Maybe i'll check target or walmart to see if they have any cheap ps2 ones. If not i'll keep an eye out for the ps3 one since you guys say it works with the PS1
