Arizona law takes effect thursday

Post by Jrecee »

Is it good? Are they just going about it the wrong way? Does the law promote racial profiling? Is there a way to crack down on illegal immigration without some degree of racial profiling?

Will all these people leaving Arizona impact the economy in a negative or positive way? I'm leaning toward negative.

Whatever your feelings on this law, it will be interesting to see how it turns out.

Do you think the Obama administration will be successful in declaring this law unconstitutional?

You like these controversial topics don't you? I almost made a thread about the gulf oil spill about a month ago but decided against it.

Anyhow, I think some racial profiling is unavoidable. Yes, there could be illegal immigrants from places other than Mexico or South America but I imagine in Arizona the vast majority are coming from the south. Racial profiling only makes sense. I do not think the Obama administration will be able to over turn it but you never know. I do not think immigration reform will be something that he will really put any kind of actually effort into with his plate already being so full with the economy and wars that he inherited with the position.

Whether I feel the law is a good thing or not I do not really know. I actually have not been paying any attention to what is going on other than in passing. I know there are a lot of illegal immigrants here but I am unsure how that affects anything...Do they get healthcare, food stamps, housing, all that stuff that tax payers have to pay for? I don't know.

I know this though, if I wanted to immigrate to another country I would basically have to be a doctor or engineer or something of that kind. I know, I have looked into it several times.

Gulf Spill was controversial? I thought it was just obvious that everyone agreed that several people really dropped the ball.

I don't know if there was a thread on this, I don't remember one. . .

I wasn't necessarily trying to create controversy, it's just that I prefer to see the views of people I talk to, as opposed to random people on yahoo comments or hardcore whackos on politics specific forums.

It would have been when I was all like " So this is what 'Drill Baby Drill' got us." I guess the oil spill alone is not controversial but the topic of offshore drilling is. Anyhow, that is not what this thread is about. Sorry for the little hi-jack.

Yeah, Americans are rich already. They won't emigrate unless they've got amazing jobs elsewhere.

I went in an exchange program to the US two years ago and I made more money over there dishwashing than I do now in my respectable daytime job in Brazil (I'm still looking for a job in my area, though; I graduated in journalism, but I can't find anything anywhere).

A people's freedoms shouldn't be infringed just to make the law easier to enforce.
