I've found a few cabinets for free. They've been sitting outside, but they're free, so beggars can't be choosers. I've been told that they were used as parts for the people who owned this building before - this is further supported by the image-burned rasters sitting around the place.
There's an empty cabinet of no use, a Zeke's Peak machine, and a nintendo choice-10. The choice-10 is missing 1 monitor and the control sticks/panels etc... The side art and marquee are in great condition. Zeke's looks to be in relatively good condition. The start button is gone and the back is sort of exposed.
I don't really have the room to store any one of them, but definitely not all three or even two. I might could get one stored, but I'm not sure which would be the best choice. I'm also not sure what the valuable parts to get off of them would be. Obviously the board would be great to nab, but other than that, all I could see taking would be the coin mech, doors, and any controls that are left.
I nabbed what was left of the gun off the nintendo.
Anyone with any experience have advice for what should be taken/checked/salvaged? Would the zeke's peak parts be found easily? It's a taito machine. It's in the best condition of the three.
Thanks in advance.

A bit of prewarning - This is just based of my experience.
If it is in working condition that Zeke's Peak may be worth some good money. I havent seen one at auction ever, and Ive been going to them for almost 10 years now. Even if it is not working, it will be worth trying to keep it around for alittle while to see if you can find anyone that needs parts from it.
Though it pains me to type this, the most valuable parts of the cab are as follows:
Unique controls - fishing rods, light guns, steering wheel motors, etc.
PCBs - the motherboard looking thing that is the game
Powersupplies
Overlays/Artwork
Coinmechs
And roughly in that order.
Sure sometimes cabs marquees are worth more than the PCB, and I have seen certain coinmechs fetch alot of money, but that is the standard I have seen with my dealings with cabinets.
Standard buttons are worthless - you can buy them in vast quantities for cheap from most manufacturers. Joysticks are alittle stickier of a subject, but the playchoice ones are not worth keeping - the other two might have sticks worth something in the aftermarket, but if the underside looks the same as the playchoice ones, then junk them. If they look different tell me.
Monitors are a sticky subject - some people dont mind burn in, others find it charming, still others hate it with a passion. The other problem is that monitors are heavy and a pain to ship. The call is yours.
I dont know if this rambling mess is any help, but maybe some of the other arcade enthusiast have ideas other than mine.

I got the only control that was left and it was the lightgun, which appears to have been partially gutted.
I believe all had their coinmechs/doors. Should I take the doors off entirely? What about the coin collection bucket/thing inside it? Heatsinks?
Is there an easy way to remove a marquee without destroying the cab? The one on the nintendo cab looks great. That cabinet just isn't worth keeping, it's gutted of controls and a monitor.
thanks for the help.

You want the entire thing; door, bin, coin mech, etc. The bucket itself might not be worth grabbing - if it is grungy or looks like someone has defecated in it (which I have seen, more than once sadly), dont bother.
I do not know what you mean by heatsinks, can you explain?
The marquee should come off with only a couple of screws. The pelxiglass on the Playchoice 10 I believe should have front mounted screws. If not they should be on the side of the glass and under caps, just hunt around it should be fairly easy to take out. Some of cabinets actually do not have them screwed in, just slid in between to pieces of plexi.

So, I had to go rummage before I saw your reply.
I got the entire door off both of the two video cabs. All the coin-mech parts seemed to be there and in working order.
The playchoice-10 marquee was just held in between the top and a piece of wood, so I pulled the bottom piece down and the marquee slipped out in great condition. I also got the metal serial # badges off the nintendo cab.
I pulled the pcb surround from the nintendo cabinet. By that, I mean that I took the whole metal box that the board was in. All the pcb's are in there and appear to be in great shape.
I got the power supply, or what's left of the nintendo cabinet.
From the totally fubar cabinet, I got a board of some sort, but it doesn't look like the nintendo board. I'll post pictures when I can. I looks a lot like a mother board. It's got the taito brand on it.
I posted a question about the gun in the hacks/mods section. No responses yet, but I thought that it looked similar to the gun in the mod for the saturn and wondered if it could work for an nes or another system without too much work.
*Will post pics soon.

I don't mean to make an epic bump, but I've uploaded photos of the cabinets I was salvaging from. I went to get parts off zeke's peak and they'd trashed everything that was back there...oh well.
This should link you to the album. I'll be adding pics of the stuff that I've gotten out of the cabinets shortly...
