What Are Your Goals In Game Collecting?

I started collecting about a year ago and I was trying to find all the Formula One games and a couple racing games for the systems I had the PS1&2, Xbox and Xbox 360. I then went to a store that had Dreamcast games and I saw they had a couple F1 games for that system so I bought a Dreamcast, then I saw a Saturn at the same store with a F1 game, so I bought a Saturn. After playing the old games I started thinking about all the old games I had or friends had growing up, and how I traded them all in at funco land. (stupid!!) I started buying up old systems and games that I just liked. No rhyme or reason.

So trying to get a handful of Formula one games turned into me owning all this, it has been a rough year, fun though...

Atari 2600 – 30 Games
Atari Jaguar – 6 Games

Sega 32X - 5 Games
Sega Saturn – 54 Games
Sega Dreamcast – 52 games
Panasonic 3DO – 16 Games
Intellivision – 19 Games


I am now working on getting more Super Nintendo games and a Jaguar CD.

My main goal is getting all of the more known systems including handhelds with at least 5-10 games per each one. Then for a long term goal would be getting the more obscure ones or different versions. Maybe somewhere in that time build a virtual boy almost complete collection (some games are too expensive). Since 3-4 years collecting have: atari2600, jaguar, lynx, ps2, xbox, nes, snes, ngpocket, vboy, 3do, cd-i, playdia, gamegear, dreamcast, saturn, genesis, mastersystem, wonderswan, turbografx w/cd, odyssey2, Wii, PSP and a Dslite on its way.

Wanted list in no particular order: ps1, segacd & 32x , neo geo cd & aes, nintendo64, black dreamcast, toploading nes, jaguar cd, intellivision, pong, gameboy, colecovision & a gamecube.

When it comes to my game collection. All that I'm after are the games of each generation that interest me. Usually this involves most of the best games for that console and some extra games that are more geared towards my personal gaming preferences.

So all of those games for all of your console and portable Nintendo and Sony consoles is really what I am after. I also have a C64 and had an Atari but I am satisfied with the games I have on those so its not much of my concern.

On my first time through each generation I did a good job at getting most of the games that I want in my collection. But since I've grown older I've discovered more games that I missed out on. So I'm going back and getting those as well.

my collecting aim - to NOT collect! i really need to just keep the games i know i'll play again even after i've beaten them, so my collecting goal is to just get the really great games including a few lesser known titles that i personally find interesting.

I'm kinda the same way
I just like hearing other people's stories.

The only things I've been buying is DS games and I'm asking for a couple Gamecube games for Christmas.
I need to get around to getting a DS flash cart so I can play all my games whenever without having to carry them around and swap carts (but again, I still buy the games)

the thing that bugs me about flash carts and emulation even is that it's so easy to get jaded with an overabundance of options... just me? am i crazy? but then i tend to buy so many carts i can't keep up with them. i just got 2 more gba carts to go with the other ones i pretty much never play, ha. but considering they are mostly games i know i love, i'll play them someday hopefully (when i get stranded on a desert island, i'll be glad i bought them)

I totally know what you mean.
It's just like how we all used to treasure every game we could get our hands on when we were kids -- even if they weren't that good.

Now that we have emulation and piracy at a fingertips, we can flip between games whenever we feel like it

I'm not **complaining** just making an observation.
Having more choices is always a good thing.
BTW, we are having the same issue with all types of media (writing, video, music) now that the Internet has changed everything. In fact, I want to say there is a book about this phenomena.
