Yeah. Typically you wouldn't be using these 4Mbit EPROMs on SNES games. It would only be worth using for the rare instance of a 4Mb game, or when a game has a 4Mb overflow, so you don't have to "waste" an 8Mb (or larger) EPROM.

By the way, Bartre, I saw you posted on the DigitPress forums about making a FF3 NES cart. Were you ever able to get yours working?

Hello

I have a problem with Dragon Quest III :?

I made a Dragon Quest III English cart using TSOP out of Tales of Phantasia, game plays fine, but it does not save. I have switched batteries too, any idea why it will not save? Thanks

Couple things I can think of. One, the SRAM on that cart is damaged. Take a 64Kb SRAM off another cart that is able to save and see if it works.

Two, maybe the Tales of Phantasia cart is not identical to the Dragon Quest III cart. Maybe the way the MAD-1 addresses the ROM and SRAM is different. If nothing else works, maybe you could try getting a DQ3 Super Famicom cart.

Three, maybe there's a problem with the translation patch on real hardware that prevents the game from saving. The game was originally 32Mb and they expanded it to 48Mb, so maybe they screwed something up as far as saving goes. If you or some one you know has a SNES PowerPak from Retro Zone, you could try loading the game on there and seeing if it can save. Might also be able to play it off a flash cart from Tototek, but it might have issues with this particular game.

One last thing I can think of, it's a 48Mb game and you used two 32Mb TSOPs. Try using a 16Mb (29F016) for the second TSOP instead.

Thank you for your reply :D

I tested the save in tales of phantasia before to make the cartmood and the save was functional So no problem on it.

I tested the rom on my test card with 6 eprom 27C801 and save work

You should definitely try using a 29f016 as the second TSOP instead of the 032. If you can't get a hold of any 016's, you could try using two 27c801's with a 74ls139.

It doesn't work with the 016 either, I tried it with a ToP cart and can't get the DQ3 or Chrono Trigger Compendium to save either. I even tried swapping the MAD and SRAM from a regular Hirom cart and the same thing happens.

So the both of you tried putting DQ3 on a ToP cart. Have either of you tried putting it on a regular HiROM cart (like NHL 95)? It's really weird that it works with 6x 801's but not with two TSOPs. Only difference there is the donor cart used.

I was mostly curious, but also because I want to make myself a FF3 cart. You used a 72 pin SMB2 cart, right? I was gonna try it that way but couldn't find clear instructions, so I ended up ordering a FF3 Famicom cart since I was lucky enough to find a copy of Gyromite with the converter inside.

ah, well, i actually ended up using a copy of Kirby's adventure and adding a pin to the cart, same process, except you have to add the pin instead of adding a save battery.

That's probably a lot easier to do, I would think. Do you have a link to a guide that you used or anything like that?
