News flash: Sega Genesis games are pixelated! If you get used to it, you just might (gasp!) prefer it that way. A decent picture is going to expose those wonderful pixels.

I can't get enough pixels, personally.

sorry
Agreed with these sentiments.

It kills me how so many retro gamers go out of their way to convince you that RGB looks like shit on an LCD/Plasma. It's a 16-bit console running at 240p that's probably older than most of the people on this forum, what the hell do you honestly expect?
THIS. Can't HD a non HD source. Enjoy the rastar scan imagery! :D
Still, the composite hookup will be better then RF.

I enjoy playing my Retro consoles as much as the next guy, but the Genesis isn't one of them. Between Sonic's Sega Genesis Collection disc, Xbox Live Arcade, Wii Virtual Console, and the Gamecube Sonic Mega and Gems Collection discs (backwards compatible on Wii) I now have every game I had on that console easily playable on my newer consoles. Granted, I "get" the nostalgia factor of playing certain games on the original consoles, and that some games are still only available on their original formats, but it depends on the individual preferences.

For me, I prefer playing Genesis games on the newer consoles, and officially retired my Genesis to the closet. The best it could output was composite cables, and even then the Genesis only had Mono sound with a single audio output cable.

With HDTVs, it is indeed true that you won't get much from hooking a Genesis up to it. While that is true for this console, you can maximize many others with the proper cables. If you still have a Standard Definition Tube Television, it would be best to play anything older than the following on it. Here are the best cables for each console that I have hooked up to my HDTV:

Super Nintendo = S-Video
Gamecube + Gameboy Player = Component
Wii = Component
Xbox 360 = HDMI
Playstation = S-Video
Playstation 2 = Component
Playstation 3 = HDMI
Sega Dreamcast = VGA Cable

Anything that doesn't at least support S-Video should just be played on a Standard Definition Television for best results. I keep an old Tube TV around for the NES and Intellevision consoles. Up to the individual, but the above is what I've found to work best. Good luck to you whatever you decide.

Composite not the criteria to go standard TV. S-Video also only supports only up to 480i.
But you can make even composite look okay on HD with the right TUBE.

Throw in issues of DOT CRAWL when going LCD even with some last Gens such as the PS2 with Component.
Check out CRT vs LCD at my signature link. Insight on various inputs and possibly some workarounds.
