Because this jackass was possibly "bored" (like he claimed when he hacked the iPhone) and decided to mess around with the PS3 AND advertise his mild success, EVERY OTHER PS3 user gets the shaft and has Linux removed.

I'm really starting to hate Geohot. I had faith that he would release the custom firmware, but now it is evident that he was just talking out his ass. He never had any intention of releasing it; he just wanted to tease PS3 owners.

I'm not letting Sony off the hook completely, but you have to believe that Sony would have left well enough alone had Geohot not started hacking the PS3... no?

I wouldn't hold your breath, you could be waiting quite a long time. Even then, there's very little guarantee that they'll actually win this lawsuit of theirs, and even if they do, there's no guarantee that Sony will be forced to restore OtherOS.

Needless to say, I imagine that un-upadted systems with OtherOS still on there will likely be extremely valuable in the future.

yeah, but i refuse and am not rich enough to purchase a 2nd playstation, because I dont want to update. so i am just going to be pissed at sony and deal and hope they lose the lawsuit.

If if they do lose it as a class action lawsuit you know what you'll get if you join in before the deadline? A $5 check or a coupon off a Sony product.
