What System was in your computer before? Maybe you need updated drivers for your particular video card?

Need to look in Application and System under the Windows Logs section.

Vista, but I installed the ATI CCC and drivers immediately after completing the install of Win 7.

Looks like it is the video card. sevin0seven was kind enough to drive up and see me and bring his ATI 4850 to try on my system. He played about 10 minutes of Borderlands before it crashed with my video card. After installing his, there were no problems. I'll get in touch with xfx to see about getting a new card (or likely a refurb).

Thanks everyone for your help!

If you bought the graphics card from a store then it's up to the store to replace it within 12 months. If it was purchased OEM, then you need to go to the customer support for the site you bought it from and file an RMA.

That must be a UK thing. Generally here in the US there's a 15-30 day limit with stores which is on the back of receipts, especially from electronics stores. Wasn't the '1 year defect' thing the reason that one guy got a refund from Amazon for Sony yanking the Linux from the PS3? Let's not turn this into a Sony/PS3 bash, just the first example that came to mind since I'm not in the UK.

It wouldn't matter to me. As a rule, I general don't replace something that failed with the same part (or whatever). Some exceptions aside, but this case would not be an exception.

Amazon would not accept a return as I bought it in Nov 2009. Had to go through XFX and sent it to them on MY nickel. Is that unprecedented?? I buy their defective product and they require me to pay to ship it back to them?? That's the height of hypocrisy!

EDIT: I'm hoping they send me a 5770 as a replacement... that was what I wanted to buy in the first place before seeing a deal on the 4870 on Amazon.

That's standard for warranties on just about anything. Go read some random warranties and they're all going to be like that whether they're electronics or not. You pay to send the item to them, they fix or send you a refurb and they pay to send it back. Stores will usually exchange within 15 or 30 days.

If you bought the card back in November, XFX will probably have plenty of stock to send you the same thing. If it had been a lifetime warranty time deal on a 5 year old card, then you might get lucky and get something newer.
