Issue with region changing and SatHeader?

Post by Ivo »

I know I used to be able to do this by myself... I'm feeling a bit like a rookie but I haven't figured out what I'm doing wrong.

I'm trying to region change an image from US to Europe as US stuff is usually easier to find and often there is one less screen to skip (language selection).

It is a .bin + .cue in this case. I test stuff out on SSF emulator set to Europe before burning because I don't like to waste CDs. And although the unaltered image (mounted by Daemon Tools Lite) will run fine on SSF set to US, after I edited the region with SatHeader to Europe SSF recognizes the CD (mounted by Daemon Tools Lite) as a CD+G and not as a game.

I used to do this without problems so I'm baffled. I think the fact that it runs fine before I alter the region means the image I got is good... But still, I tried with another copy which was in .mdf + .mds format. Once again it runs in SSF unaltered. As SatHeader doesn't work on that format, I used discjuggler to change the mounted image (on Dameon Tools Lite) into a .cdi, then altered the region on a .cdi and once again that won't run.

I'm out of ideas (other than locating a native Europe region one that works, but that wouldn't be an option for a region exclusive).

Try patching it with a hex editor. I looked at the code for a saturn region patcher a while back. Looked pretty easy to do by hand. At least you could open a few Saturn images and see where the region info is kept, and see if the image you have is different.

Are you just trying to change the region of the image? If so, I would highly recommend Saturn Region Patcher. If you are needing to modify the image in another way, I am not too familiar with SatHeader.

Hopefully that will help you.

Yes I was just trying to change the region so it would run on an European Saturn. I'll try the different program later today and post here if it worked.

Ah, are you trying to patch an NTSC image? That will change the region, but maybe the program itself has specific things in the program itself for the video output settings.

I don't think that would affect SSF.

It worked with SRP - I guess it is an issue with SatHeader itself (maybe it doesn't work properly on Vista?).

Thanks for the link and help guys.
