Every bank has to have a CIP (Customer Identification Program) which lets the bank ask a lot of question and request documents to verify your identity before opening an account. The one that fails to comply with that the charges sum up to 28 million in fines to the bank (thats the smallest fine they emitted to BPPR (Banco Popular of Puerto Rico). Then we have to look in the SDN List emitted by OFAC (Office of Foreign Assets Control) to see if your not a person that is a threat to the US. And other things I don't want to write. But if you want more information you can PM me and Ill send you all the specific details.racketboy wrote:Really? Its not only the USA Patriot Act but they also amend the gram leach billey act (Your Privacy) and the worst Regulation CC. And now all of them have the word terrorism in them and its worst to give customers new products and benefits.

Oh that must be what my brother was talking about when he tried opening an account when he moved to CA. His current bank (but in a different state) gave him a hard time when all he wanted to do is deposit some cash in an account. So he went over to Bank of America which let him do it without a hassle.

Yeah Bank of America has Fincen regulators up to their asses for not doing things the way the are supposed to do it. I know things are more compicated but if your a banker you gotta do the things like the law request it but trying not to upset your customer. I know thats a hard thing to do but its achievable.racketboy wrote:nightwalker wrote:Every bank has to have a CIP (Customer Identification Program) which lets the bank ask a lot of question and request documents to verify your identity before opening an account. Thanks for the info. I was just reflecting on how easy it was to open an account a while back at Kansas State Bank. I signed maybe 3 papers, and had an account active same day, and a debit card arrived within that week. Plus the girl was either very new and nervous, or she was flirting with me. I couldn't tell.

I can't agree with you more. Or using the specter of "terrorism" as a justification for just about any new law that is against the core principles this country was founded on (or justifying actions that are flat-out against federal law).racketboy wrote:While that may be true, it's a little late to do anything about it now...extrarice wrote:...being in iraq...

It's the "think of the children" for the new millennium!
(No, I'm not cynical, where did you get that idea?

With the whole 2008 business going down, US politics have been in the news a lot recently, and it shocks me how much money is involved in these elections, and who's providing it. Can any of you seriously look at any of the mainstream politicians and say that they're not corrupt? The only 2 who I can see that seem not to be are Paul and Gravel, and both are pretty fringe with a rare chance of being elected. How much of this lack of popularity is due to less funding and how much is because they want big change? I know the system in the US is quite a bit different from the one here, but don't you find it scary that presidents have no one to answer to for 4 years, as congress have quite blatantly come out and said that they're not going to impeach anyone? Without trying to sound all 'we're better than you', there was a scandal with the government 2 years ago here, and there was a swift election and the PM got the boot. Bush has done some (arguably, sure) quite bad things, and no one's gone and kicked him out, isn't that a worry?
Am I telling you what i think is right or wrong or arguments against Iraq?
The whole point is, that alot of people think the war is wrong, yet do nothing about it. I think this is a simple way to end the war, alot of people say it will never happen and thats just helping the problem.
