Being really into retro games, I've really been let down by most newer games. Like they are missing something, they look good and play ok, but they felt kinda blah. Until....
Okami for PS2 was really great and I haven't been that addicted to a game since Castlevania: SOTN. The sumi painted look of the game is so unique, and there was always so much to do without being overwhelming. The game has a sense of humor and the game play is really easy to get the hang of but never boring. I know, I know it's kind Zelda-ish, but dammit it takes it to another level. Clover rocks!
Also, Tales of the Abyss for PS2!! I was expecting another mediocre RPG and really got sucked into this game. Great battle system, tons and tons of side quests, amazing backround design, outstanding voice acting (Jade's lines are hilarious), and it's got heart too! (although at times it can be a tad immature for me). Probably the best RPG I've played since Xenogears or Crono Cross.
What Game Was The Most Pleasant Surprise For You?
Have you played any other Tales games?ott0bot wrote:Also, Tales of the Abyss for PS2!! I was expecting another mediocre RPG and really got sucked into this game. Yeah, i played Tales of Legendia. Not so impressed! The 2d fighting battle system was really sloppy and I just couldn't get into it. How many times does that girl have to get kidnapped!!! I also played Tales of Destiny for ps1, which was cool. I know there is a whole bunch of Japan only releases, but I can't read Japanese. I heard Tales of Symphonia is good too, but i ain't got no Gamecube. Maybe when I get a Wii.....
Why do you ask?
