I thought so at first, but he did have several posts that were reasonable for that group he wanted to start, however poorly planned it was. Plus, I don't often get the chance to completely deconstruct a post like that.dsheinem wrote:Am I the only one that thought J. Norman was just troll bait?

....I know, shocker right? whats that it isn't? The sales suck and Sony is trying to reach another audience other than the mature man with at least half his brain intact. Kids liked role model and everything Marcus has been on because the kid is freaking funny!! I'm not sure if you high minded 35-42 yr olds, who stay on this damn site noticed this because you think know a little something about games and don't do and any real shit to progress the gaming industry other than down everything that comes across your paths noticed this, but the kid is actually a very smart choice for the PSP Campaign. He is young but been in mature movies like Role Model. That give his a good amount of support. No, I'm not a kid you guys are just such shallow old dicks that, if you really looked at the past years of your life, would notice that YOU DID SHIT. You didn't go to parties in high school, maybe went to collage and did nothing with your lives. AND FYI u shit heads Marcus is only the PSP campaign mascot....... you idiots!!!! Now let the comments fly!!!!!!!

Re: Anyone else think the new "Marcus" commercials are lame?
Yep, apologies to you all if offended. I actually just did that whole monologue because I wanted to take my view to the extreme. I don't really think that of you all and actually respect a good amount of you. I just like stirring things the the wrong way. To be honest I personally do like the campaign ads, their not as funny as the PS3 ones but I can still get a little chuckle from them. I think they are headed the right direction because if you noticed the advertisement for PSP was pretty bad and if you think these videos are taking steps back (sales wise) than you might want to got to your little brother and his friends next time you see them and ask them of they would rather have a DS or a PSP. The only thing I would like to see on the next psp (which they are in the process of making) is a second analog stick. That would change everything! But, back to the point I think the PSP is going to sale to the consumer. Oh, and again sorry to those mad for my out burst, I was just bored and wanted to laugh. For those who did laugh and get a good kick out of this thread then thanks for having humor. LOL

Ignoring all of that mess...
"Off the boat," in the derogatory sense, implies someone who likely doesn't speak English and works for $2 an hour. Having known a number of such people (my father-in-law is a minister who works for the rights of illegal immigrants), I feel pretty confident in saying that you likely far too broadly applied such a term to the Latino population. Whether you're Latino yourself, it's still needlessly offensive, a generalization, and didn't help get your point across whatsoever.
"Wiggers" is the worst offense. It quite literally translates to "white nigger." How the fuck does anyone think that's an acceptable term to use, in any situation?
I didn't mind the rest of your commentary, but this paragraph is both offensive and ignorant. The word "urban" is incredibly vague. Yes, Marcus is the personification of an urban stereotype (the "token black kid," if you will), but then you go on to say that urban black people are the typical PSP customers - retards that make us question our humanity. "Complete fucking idiots." You're literally generalizing, grossly, tens of millions of people.Mod_Man_Extreme wrote:Sony is marketing to "Urban" Black people, Wiggers and "Off the boat" Hispanics. Dude, it's a highly charged derogatory joke on the sarcasm level. But like it or hate it the facts are there for the sub-demographical portion of the population I mentioned.crux wrote:Ignoring all of that mess...

Please note that I don't imply entire racial demographics when I'm saying things like that either. Blacks (Or African Americans if you're PC) and Hispanics are just as intelligent and money conscious as white people and and not all white kids from the suburbs are "Wiggers" (Just poking fun at the idiot kids who think they're gangstas from the ghetto by using the most common term they use to describe themselves) but there are idiots in the bunch nonetheless and Sony's got a big marketing gun pointed straight at them.
As for the terms I used I see it this way, the simplest description (even if a bit crass) is the easiest way to get a point across. I mean how do you think the marketing execs talked about it in the boardroom, like they actually respected the customers!?
It's the attitude you have that disappoints me, you seem to be trying hard to defend these social groups based on only your principle of political correctness and I can understand and respect that. I simply wanted to point out that I saw as Sony's aim in this marketing campaign in the most attention grabbing manner that would surely stick with whoever read it.
And as for "Urban" you got it right in that I was referring to Sony's blatant use of the (to quote you) "Token Black Kid" stereotype.
In the end though when I said they were all retarded idiots I meant only the lower 10% of each demographic I mentioned not the other 90% that are intelligent and know what they're doing. It would just be stupid on my part to assume that simply by the color of someone's skin or the language they speak automatically meant they weren't capable of the exact same tasks and more than any other person.

To also elaborate a bit more on this by "Off the boat" I meant people who are quite new to the US but unwilling to adapt yet hopelessly addicted to the American way of life.crux wrote:"Off the boat," in the derogatory sense, implies someone who likely doesn't speak English and works for $2 an hour. Basically those who act in a crass manner and like they don't know what to do ON PURPOSE but still put all their spare time and cash into bettering themselves beyond their means. It's something I sometimes see all to often and it's a bit disheartening at times.
But that's basically what I meant.
As for being Latino myself I can't really say that I am to be honest. I am of Latino descent on my Mother's side (Costa Rican on my Mother's side; British/Polish on my late Father's) but given the way my mother raised me and my sister and where we grew up I'd say I honestly feel more as if I'm white/mixed with an intimate connection and understanding of Latino culture.

Jeez I'm getting kicked in the ass relentlessly for using this term and I can get people's anger at me but it wasn't meant as a personal insult at anyone just a purposely biased sarcastic opinion.Weekend_Warrior wrote:Yup.
