Don't worry; every Racketeer has something that they hate and will bring up to talk about at the drop of a hat. For me, it's unlocalized games in Namco's Tales series. For you, CRTgamer, it's the PS3's YLOD. For Niode, it's games that never get released in Europe, and for Luke, it's people posting redundant threads.CRTGAMER wrote:Apologies, not trying to offend Current Gen owners, just offering help. Great exclusive games are to be had on any console be it old or new. The cold hard reality is the PS3 and 360 has a track record of a chance eventual fail due to heating issues and OSHA required LEAD FREE SOLDER. So why would anyone waste milage of PS3 playing an older game with that risk hanging? Real ironic for YLOD to appear playing a PS1-PS2 game when older consoles are so inexpensive, especially if already sitting in the shelf. PS2 console scenario I pointed out earlier with HDAdvance/HDLoader a better convenient route anyways.Mod_Man_Extreme wrote:AppleQueso wrote:CRT gamer, why not just put the YLOD warning thing in your sig or something?
Anyhow, the reason those lists seem "outdated" is because Sony hasn't updated the b/c on the ps3 (ps1 or ps2) in quite a long time.Yeah man, I mean I understand being protective of your systems and all, but they're designed to be played not babied.
Also, maybe he wants to use it as an upscaler/upconverter for his PS1/PS2 games and compared to the other options out there (COUGH-xrgb-Cough) it's the only easy and affordable solution.
Any help offered even if seems redundant, doesn't have to be used. A casual new reader might gain. The information on Racketboy is not just for active members but for everyone to gain knowledge, maybe even encourage participation and add more rhetoric.
Interim, I added YLOD sticky to my signature. The problem affecting both consoles is that the LEAD free solder on the under side of the GPU (Graphics processing chip) is disconnecting, over time, from the main board. As the board of the console heats up when on, the solder joints expand. When you turn the console off the solder contracts. Factor in LEAD FREE solder on what are known as BGA (Ball Grid Array) connections to the main board and and the high operating temperature of both PS3 and Xbox360, then you have a recipe for disaster.
THERE IS NO PERMANENT FIX ON PS3 YELLOW LIGHT OF DEATH
The only way you could PERMANENTly fix the problem is to remove all the lead free solder from the underside of the GPU and replace it with Leaded-solder. This is not only prohibitively expensive to do, but it is also ILLEGAL under the 2006 European Union Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE) and Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive (RoHS). So don't believe anyone promising a PERMANENT fix.

Most games I have tried work fine; the only game I've had trouble with is Tales of Legendia; when battles start, you only get a gray background, instead of a graphical one.

a big THANKS.lisalover1 wrote:Don't worry; every Racketeer has something that they hate and will bring up to talk about at the drop of a hat. For me, it's unlocalized games in Namco's Tales series. Indeed, his stuff is certainly very informative.
With the YLOD thing in his sig now, maybe he can tone down a little on the "PS3 limited milage" posts?

I'll try, sometimes responses just fly off the keys when reading threads.AppleQueso wrote:Indeed, his stuff is certainly very informative.

Take with grain of salt, no reason to take offer of help as an offense.
In getting back to Topic.
miked, curious what model PS3 you traded in for that deal at Gamestop?
Here is a Wiki maybe more up to date compatibility list.

I took no offense to your post and I hope you didn't take any to mine. I just see you doing it alot.
Anyway it was a 40GB model. I cant remember but I think it was the first version to completly drop BC support.
Thanks for that wiki list, its the best one I have seen so far. All of my favorites are compatible or have very small glitches so I imagine I will be alright.

Re: A question to those with 80gb backwards compatible PS3s
As a shmup fan, I had unbearable/crippling glitches with Castle Shikigami 2 and Gradius V. Otherwise, I haven't noticed problems in any other games I've played. Still, I can just throw them in my PS2 and it's no big deal...miked wrote:I took no offense to your post and I hope you didn't take any to mine. I just see you doing it alot.

Now we only have to deal with CRTGAMER's fixation with "Digital Rental Management."
