Can GCN and Wii LAN together?
I assume the answer is yes, but just curious -- could you have a Gamecube hooked up to one TV and a Wii hooked up to another and connect them to play Mario Kart Double Dash for instance?
Re: Can GCN and Wii LAN together?
I know that a Wii in Gamecube mode cannot 'know' that it's anything but a gamecube, but hardware wise, I don't think the Wii has the necessary port to LAN to a gamecube.
It only has USB, AV, and sensor bar ports, right?

Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

It seems to be possible, but for it to even be tested/work I'd assume you'll need the Wii LAN Adapter.

Re: Can GCN and Wii LAN together?
There is a USB to Ethernet LAN adapter manufactured by Nintendo which should in theory make this possible.Flake wrote:I know that a Wii in Gamecube mode cannot 'know' that it's anything but a gamecube, but hardware wise, I don't think the Wii has the necessary port to LAN to a gamecube.

Also, while the Wii does go GAmecube only in Gamecube mode it's a modified design allowing for use of certain Wii features such as rendering most 480i Gamecube games in 480p.
EDIT:^ This is even if the games didn't support 480p initially too.

Re: Can GCN and Wii LAN together?
I dont think it is possible. In Gamecube mode doesnt it disable all the fancy Wii features?
Re: Can GCN and Wii LAN together?
A Gamecube doesn't know what a USB port is. Sadly, this won't workMod_Man_Extreme wrote:There is a USB to Ethernet LAN adapter manufactured by Nintendo which should in theory make this possible.Flake wrote:I know that a Wii in Gamecube mode cannot 'know' that it's anything but a gamecube, but hardware wise, I don't think the Wii has the necessary port to LAN to a gamecube.

Have you tried it with the official LAN Adapter at all?dlmvii wrote:A Gamecube doesn't know what a USB port is. The Gamecube definitely knows what a serial connection is (Hint: USB means Universal Serial Bus) and the Gamecube's Broadband Adapter connects to the Gamecube's high speed serial port so there's always a chance.

Re: Can GCN and Wii LAN together?
Yes, but just because both devices have serial in the name doesn't mean they are at all related. Here's a third party anecdote - http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/516710-m ... h/48186798
It seems like backwards compatibility for that port probably wasn't a huge deal for nintendo (or most of its customers). Which is sad, because I'd love to be able to use my gameboy player in 480p without buying the exceedingly rare gamecube component cables

Re: Can GCN and Wii LAN together?
I know, but I think even a reasonable price for them is too expensive for my blood. I thought for sure that the market would see those decline in price quite a bit once the wii came out with it's affordable cables, but people are still willing to buy them for those prices.
What really gets me is that, many moons ago, I had them in my hands, while working at a gamestop. I think the price was $5. At the time though, I didn't have an HDTV, nor did I know they were worth so much. Grrrr
