TG-16 CD help?

Post by Shabba »

My TG-16 is not powering on, or rather, it is intermittent. The power cable is good because it will power on the base unit AND the cd player itself, but when it is all hooked up, it is intermittent...today it will not power on at all. Are these known to give this type of problem and is there a fix?

Wiggle it around with the power switch turned to "on" until it turns on. then tape it so it stays in that position.

If that does fix it, it means you need to solder the power supply inside the unit. Someone might correct me but thats my best guess.

It's gotten to the point where it will not power on at all. Is there anywhere here in Richmond that sells the 4.5 game-bits so I can take it apart?

Agree, seems to be the connection. Check with a multi-meter once you get it apart.

Online the best chance of finding one, here is a thread of some sources.

Ok it has been pulled apart and there is nothing whatsoever, other than some cobwebs, that seems to be out of place...what am I looking for in particular?

Separated solder joint on the power? Any loose cables that need to be pulled, cleaned, replugged? Roasted spots on the board?

A good gentle blast of air along with acid brushes to get rid of "bugs". Maybe CD eye is dusty with spidey hanging out.

So how is this for weird... the power brick is no good. My base is fine. Although I plugged the TG-16 in to my power brick AND the cd player with both working just fine, for some reason the power brick won't work with the base. How in the crap is that possible?

Check those CD unit to base contacts and also where the power plug goes in.
To verify power use a multimeter internally.
