Complications w/ playing a PAL PS2 game using swap magic?
Complications w/ playing a PAL PS2 game using swap magic?
As the title says, could I use swap magic on my ps2 to boot a PAL game with few/no issues? (I have an NTSC US PS2). I know that swap magic can boot imports just fine, but I wonder if there could be issues with the signal and whatnot.
Re: Complications w/ playing a PAL PS2 game using swap magic?
You can choose the freq you run the game at, so if there are any issues, you just need to run it in its native res, games that have speech in 50hz tend to not be synced, and audio in fmv's wont be synced.
Some 50hz games look and play great in 60hz, others will need to stay at 50hz, however you shouldnt have any issues when running at 50hz.
I have had no issues with playing NTSC games on my PAL console via Swap Magic, I use the .elf, if you have freemcboot on your console, you can use the .elf to play imports (Still need the same swapping method of course).

Agree, Swap magic lets you choose PAL or NTSC.
I think you need a Flip Top or Slide Tool though.
The better then U.S release PAL version ICO has a built in option for NTSC. One to definitely get, perfect to install to the hard drive without PAL/NTSC conversion worries. Actually, HDAvance/HDLoader is a better way to go. Maybe some other PAL games having PAL-NTSC menu option?

So does that mean that the sound won't be synced and there's nothing I can do about it?emwearz wrote:You can choose the freq you run the game at, so if there are any issues, you just need to run it in its native res, games that have speech in 50hz tend to not be synced, and audio in fmv's wont be synced.
You think so? Will it have similar issues? I'm trying to decide what'll be easier for this right now, either swap magic or HD loader.CRTGAMER wrote: The better then U.S release PAL version ICO has a built in option for NTSC. HDAdvance/HDLoader for 99 percent of you games, install and forget, already mentioned on your older thread.Dylan wrote:You think so? Will it have similar issues? If there is in the game PAL-NTSC option then no problem. Its a matter of getting the PAL games that have that choice, see earlier Reply link above on this page. My earlier example, the PAL version of ICO is better with extra features but defaults to PAL. On my NTSC HD install the first screen PAL rolled until I selected NTSC. Since it saved the settings to memory card, screen no longer rolls on subsequent loads.

Thank you, you've been quite helpful. I have one final question, what do I do if the game I'm looking at (Evil Twin: Cyprien's Chronicles) isn't on that list? I don't think that the game supports 60hz mode from what I've gathered, so I'm wondering if it's possible to play through it without too much technical difficulty.CRTGAMER wrote: If there is in the game PAL-NTSC option then no problem. Didn't know about the PS2 version, but not on that list. Perhaps a PAL residing member could shed some light on this?Dylan wrote:Thank you, you've been quite helpful. There is the Dreamcast version, an okay 3D explorer platformer.

Just use ESR patcher to patch the ISO before you burn it. You DON'T need Swap Magic. Install Free MCboot to a memory card and click on ESR then you can load the game without having to swap. Its much easier. Also, theres a way to convert games from PAL to NTSC, so you need not worry about the PAL/NTSC thing.

ESR patcher is the third one down. Eventhough you have to wait with Megaupload or Rapidshare its worth it.

Thanks, that's very good to know about. I'm about to purchase a copy of the game, but it's less trouble to just burn an image to a dvd than to go through other processes. Maybe from there I'll put it on my hard drive and then play it with HD loader.presicion25 wrote:Just use ESR patcher to patch the ISO before you burn it. You DON'T need Swap Magic.
