Any love fir Herzog Zwei?

Post by chupon »

Anyone else love this game? And didn't EGM give it a 4.5 out of 10 when they reviewed it? Anyone got a scan of that review? I'd love to read it.

It's the only RTS I've played and enjoyed. Well done Technosoft.

Ok, to be fair to more evolved RTS games, I get caught up in the minutae and forget the the factory over there finished its battlecruiser 10 minutes ago and has been sitting idle. So yeah, never really played against the Gen, but rented this enough to probably have bought it back in the day playing with my friend.

The ability to send off some tanks then switch from a plane to a robot and start blasting away at enemy installments is awsome. My brother in law and I would turn on the tv and just let the money build up. Then we would set up all our defenses and proceed to fight it out. Still have it and still love it.

Indeed, my friend and I did that too. We let it max out once, then we found there was a 50 (I think it was) unit limit per side.

Been playing this game quite a lot recently. Really addictive game when you get the hang of it, but the AI is rather lacking.

I've only played Herzog Zwei in multiplayer very briefly on an emulator - unfortunately my brother likes to hate any game before the Dreamcast era so it didn't last long.

I'm fond of it, and it still gets some play. It occupies a niche in my heart -- RTS strategy games for early consoles which don't suck. I don't know of another genuinely successful entry until Team Buddies, nor an earlier one other than Utopia.

I think it is a good game and probably can be really fun against a buddy. Against the AI it gets very repetitive. It is a cool concept I'd like to see repeated more often.

An old game called "Campaign" also let you control a tank in battle and you could make a lot of difference if you knew how to control it. I really enjoyed it, but I don't think it was a great game so I'm not really advising anyone to try it. It isn't an RTS either.

Lost Magic for the DS emphasizes the player character a lot as well, but its RTS elements are sort of mild, instead it has some RPG stuff.

Another game that "sort of" plays like an RTS but is important that you join the fray in person is Battlezone (1998). This one is a great game that I get the impression not as many people played as they should (being a PC game and all) - I recommend people to try to give this one a go. It's rather difficult though (particularly the cruel expansion pack).

Ivo.
