PS3 Pad accessories for PS2 Pad

Post by Lord_Santa »

just quick (odd?) question;

whilst playing PS3 for the first time at a friend's house, I noticed that Sony finally has fixed the biggest issue I've had with the PSX-PS2 controllers

L2 and R2 had different shaped triggers
they felt more analog, since they were a bit wider and much... deeper

I don't know what they are called, but I found them as an accessory at my local game-shop

how similar are the PS2 vs. PS3 controllers?

this is merely an add-on to be put on L2/R2 triggers on a PS2 controller

would it work in a similar fashion?

P.S.

here's a picture

PS3 "Real Triggers" by Gioteck

..and no, I don't believe they would work on PS2 controllers. They're shaped different

Wow, we're apparently on completely different wavelengths.

The biggest issue I have with PS3 controllers are the L2 and R2 buttons. I hate them. Quite often when I'm playing games where you have to hold down the L2/R2 buttons (like racing games), I suddenly come to a stop because I'm not holding them down hard enough.

And then, using the trigger buttons in fighting games? Impossible. They may as well not be there.

The only genre that benefits from trigger buttons are FPSs... and even then, I'd rather use R1/L1 than R2/L2.

Damn straight. The PS3 port of Fracture was a pain in the ass since it had fire as L2/R2. (I can't remember if you could change the controls or not.) WHy change the fire buttons? They were the L1/R1 buttons on the PS1/2.

I never noticed how big of a problem the triggers were until I played a racing game; they're horrible. :(

To be fair the PS1 controller was never any good. The fact they haven't fixed the glaring flaws of it's design some 15 years later is just appalling in my book. The triggers are just another addition to a very long list of flaws that the PS controller has:

Crap Dpad
Crap thumbsticks
(convex instead of concave making your thumb slip off the sodding things time and time again, if you're going to make your sticks concave don't make them fucking smooth you retards...)
Dual thumbsticks too close together (your thumbs bash into each other)
Primary control method in a secondary position (the fuck is that about?)
Crap analogue triggers
Prongs are too short (which they fixed with the first analogue controller, and then broke again with the dualshock)
Crap/redundant motion controls.

I just don't understand why they don't fix these issues? Arrogance probably.

I've never had those issues with the playstation sticks, I've never once had my fingers slip off of them. I could understand them being too close together if you have large hands though.

I think the D-Pad is okay, I just wouldn't want to use it for very long.
I keep my thumbs on the outside of the sticks so I don't have that problem.

I hated the D-Pad on the PS1 and PS2, but for some reason, I don't mind it on the PS3. Maybe it's because it's now competing with the Wii and 360, which have far worse d-pads (I can get used to the 360, but it takes a learning curve. On the other hand, I've actually put blisters into my thumb using the Wii's Virtual Console d-pad)... but I seriously think there must have been something done 'under the hood' to make them better.

I remember when playing Capcom vs SNK 2 on the PS2, it was IMPOSSIBLE for me to pull off any moves using the default pad. I HAD to use the SF 15th Anniversary controllers - anything else, and I was forced to use a team consisting of huge, powerful characters where I could get away with just using regular attacks and ignoring my special move list.

With Street Fighter IV on PS3, however, I had no such problems. I could very easily just use the PS3 controller. Same with KOFXII and BlazBlue. I had no problems. I mean, sure, I'd RATHER use a PS2-to-PS3 converter with my SF 15th Anniversary Controllers, but I didn't need it as badly as I did with the PS2.

Sony DUAL ANALOG and Interact BARRACUDA 1 and 2 have concave sticks. Older design though, don't know why it went away either. DUAL ANALOG also I think has the best triggers. L2-R2 has a bump, helps differentiate from L1-R1 by feel. The best thing? I can set the sticks to operate as the direction pad for all those Tank Control games.
