Looking for a pre-modded Saturn

Post by Onyxthecat »

I'm looking to get a Saturn soon and so far it looks like one is going to run me $50-$60 with controller and cables and in good cond. I am planning on playing NA/imports and backups and to buy a chip would cost $30 so Im thinking of getting a pre-modded console online for $100.
I have never done a mod chip before and I don't want to risk damage to the console. I am away from home for the summer but if I see a deal on Ebay I can always have it shipped to my bros. house and pick it up when I get home in August so I have a while to look around. Also I know to get the Saturn with the round buttons for ease of chip installation unless the oval one isn't that much harder but I don't wan't to limit my options if I see a Saturn thats a good deal and is the wrong model.

Does this seem ok or should I keep looking and do the chip myself?

THANKS :D

If you're uncomfortable soldering, that's actually a fair deal. Figure ~35 for the console, $25 for the chip and that leaves $40 for the installation. That's cheaper than you could get it done elsewhere after shipping it twice. You'll get more than $100 worth of fun out of it too. I haven't used Sega Style before, but I haven't heard any complaints about him.

That's where I got my pre-modded Saturn from. Pretty good service.

Along with the Saturn, I bought an Action Replay 4-in-1 but it turns out it was defective, so I sent it back and quickly got one that works.

I don't use the modded Saturn anymore though, ever since I got a Japanese Saturn and started to buy import games. It's more fun owning the actual games.

Keep in mind that the modded Saturn only allows you to play backup games as well as standard US games. It will not play genuine import games on it's own (you need an AR 4-in-1 for that). It will play backup import games if you patch the region.

Ok, thanks for the info. I also was going to get the action replay too with the mod chip. I would like to buy the actual import games but funding has lead me to wanting to just download them.
The pre-modded one looks like a good deal then. I'll keep scanning ebay and such, maybe I'll find a bundle or something.

Also, maybe it would be more fun to just find imports every once in a while, I always like trying to find good deals on ebay and it would save me from having to mod the console.
