Exclusivity is going crazy

Post by RCBH928 »

Hello,

I want to discuss how crazy exclusivity on the current gen. consoles is. I am very well aware that games and content are the main reason that sells consoles, that is the reason why inferior consoles like ps2 won over more powerful consoles like the Xbox.

Games are a huge reason why any one wants to buy a consoles, some will buy ps3 because they want to play GT and MGS others will buy 360 for gears of war and fable.
But lately it went crazy.

Exclusive map packs, exclusive levels, exclusive options, exclusive avatar attire/clothing , exclusive weapon, seriously?
Is there any one that goes...
"Okay, I want to get the 360 because cod4 on it has maps "X,Y,Z", but on the ps3 we have maps "X,Y". Yes 360 is better because it has one more map I will buy it"

Another stupid thing is this: "Map packs for game 'x' will be available 2 weeks on the xbl store before any one else!!!"
WOW! 2 whole weeks? Why did I even bother buying a ps3, this console sucks!

I really don't see why companies even bother with these types of exclusivity , 2 more maps, 1 extra level, 1 different costume , 1 or 2 months earlier , does it even matter?

Microsoft just said any COD content for 2011-2013 I believe will be released first on 360, I am not sure how much they paid or what deal they got but this won't make me buy a 360. All content will be on the ps3 in the end.

If they want exclusives, I want to hear something like "COD will only be on 360 from now until 2013" or "downloadable contents and extras for this game are only on xbl" .

What do you guys think?

I think people shouldnt download these so called addons/mappacks/themes.
The only pack i ever bought was the stimulus pack on day 1 and I regretted that so much. I don't buy addons for games, and if they're just maps... well think it over 3-4-5 times. Let someone else play them and see if they're worth the dough

I imagine some people who own both consoles could be swayed into buying it for that console because it comes out earlier. But I really feel most of what you said, 360 and PS3 are really blurring into one.

There's a reason that Wii + PS3/360 + PC is the best game console combo.

How many exlcusives are there for the PS3 and 360? (In this case not counting PC)
They are so similar, it's like having only 2 consoles on the market atm.

Wii.......PS360.....

/end rant/

Since there's so many multiplatform games, SCE and MS are "persuading" publishers to release their DLC on their platform first.

There are some people who make their console purchases based on things like this. I just witnessed some kid persuade their parents to buy an Xbox 360 instead of a PS3 because Modern Warfare 2 got "exclusive map packs".

So, yeah - while people like you and me laugh at this sorta thing, it does affect some people.

Some people only buy a few games ever for their console too so I could see something like that mattering if you are one of those people.

At roughly $15 for 5 maps... I don't buy map packs anyway.

Actually, I don't really buy any DLC anymore because I keep ending up disappointed with the brief amount of gameplay it adds (Fallout 3's DLC comes to mind).

I thought FO3 for the most part had some really good DLC personally. There was nothing brief about Point Lookout. But yeah, some are better than others for sure.
