Boktai, Boktai 2... And Boktai 3?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Boktai, Boktai 2... And Boktai 3?

Post by Ivo »

Hi guys,

I'm about to start Boktai 2 (last summer I have completed Boktai with S rank).
Anyone else here is a fan of the series? The first is an amazing game.

I hear that the 2nd focuses much less on stealth, and wanted to know before I started playing in earnest if there is any point (for ranking for example) in not being found like in the first game. Considering all the melee weapons I suppose they just removed that from any sort of rankings, although it still seems possible to sneak up (with benefits of extra damage).

Also, on trying to find this info on the web I learned there is actually a Boktai 3 released only on Japan :(
Are they planning on bringing that to the US or Europe? They really should.

Nobody plays Boktai here except me? That is strange. The game is excellent people, just get it and put it into your GBA or DS. Well, maybe next summer when there is more sun, more often.

I loved the chunk of the first one I played, but never finished it or the second one. I too did not know of a third, but now I am interested in all of them...

Always felt like isometric Metal Gear, with some Snakes Revenge elements thrown in. But an S rank, thats crazy. Congrats

Thanks. I had to try the dungeons a lot of times before saving progress to do that - I got S ranks in all Immortal dungeons, but on the "normal" ones I usually had "only" As (A+ and so on) because of the time (they are very strict on time on those small ones, I think the only way to S those is to use speed nuts, as I usually wasn't found and still didn't get S). Outside dungeons I didn't really care so much about being found, I didn't know they were counting it because I got like 42 "being found" in the final tally after finishing the game, and I know for sure I always had zero in the dungeons.

I only do this sort of stuff for games that I like a lot (Megaman Zero 2, for example). Got an S there as well (bloody hard, as well). And I got all the cyber-elves, let me tell you there are 2 or 3 that I think the people that placed them there are just outright bastards (and I'm going easy on them).

Have you played the second Boktai a bit? Are there rankings there as well? It seemed to me that it was going to be quite harder to sneak around, without a ranged gun - although I have only played it up to where I could save (so basically, did only the forced "tutorial")... The level design might compensate (the sun is starting to be weak with the winter coming, so I think I'll just play next summer).

I tried a patched version of the game that let you manually control the sun meter, just so I could get a feel for the game to decide if I wanna buy it. I didn't.

Fair enough. Just out of curiosity, do you like Metal Gear Solid?

Sadly I have never seen the second Boktai in stores ever. Though based on your review of the first I will go out and try to find a copy tomorrow. If that fails I can always fall back on the rom, but I would much rather have a real version...Why do I have the urge to play so many games when I have such a massive bit of work on my shoulders.
