Siren - PS2
Siren - PS2
So, I picked up Siren for the PS2 at gamestop on a whim during their B2G1 sale over the weekend. I've never been much into this genre, but it looked fairly interesting...I played the demo of the Siren game on the PSN...to anyone that's played this or both, are they both pretty much the same fare? Or did I just get a dud? I've always wanted to try the Fatal Frames, as they are supposed to be very good examples of this genre, but the price has always been a little high for me.
Re: Siren - PS2
Let me emphasize something really quick: Siren is an unusual and interesting game, and it is definitely not an easy game. In fact, it's probably the hardest survival horror title I've played. If I remember correctly, the PS3 is a bit more action-oriented than the original release, which is a stealth-based game before anything else. Also, get ready for AI babysitting missions.
Still, it's definitely representative of the survival horror genre and a strange and disturbing title. From the themes to the visuals to the gameplay, you'll probably find it an intense experience. While it does share some visuals with Fatal Frame, I wouldn't say they're similar. If anything, Clock Tower may be a more accurate comparison, since you really can't kill the enemies in either game, whereas Fatal Frame is more combat-themed. You're using a camera, sure, but you can fend off your attackers. In Siren, you can knock them down, but you'll be running and hiding far more than anything else.

Re: Siren - PS2
If I may ask is there anything like the Siren series on Dreamcast?
Older. Not wiser.
Re: Siren - PS2
I also just bought this game, so I can't answer your question, but HEY! we bought Siren at almost the exact same time!

I'll just say that the gameplay's just not for me. I can see it being appealing, and I picked it up since it was cheap, but holy hell is this game hard. It's kind of unfair at times, but probably because I don't know the right way to approach things, and I get really scared when I get caught and am being chased. Usually switch games when it comes to that.

I was debating whether to get the sequel but games with questionable design choices throw me off so I changed my mind.

I put rocket fuel in my vaccuum and it started a fire in my house. I am so mad at Black & Decker for making a vaccuum that I can't do what I want with.

If you're talking about Forbidden Siren 2, they keep some of the mechanics but add in more combat, so you don't have to rely on the clunkier design choices. I'd pick it up if I were you, though I don't know how expensive it gets. It wasn't released in the states, unfortunately.Pulsar_t wrote:I was debating whether to get the sequel but games with questionable design choices throw me off so I changed my mind.
