Not true: http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopi ... &start=105

Also, the point I was trying to make was one of industry stagnation. Sure, I see some of this happening in FPSs - but there are other genres which are just as guilty if not more so, which for some reason get a pass.
Please don't use wikipedia as your big source. You're missing Jurassic: The Hunted, Moon, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare - Mobilized which I easily found. Handhelds don't count? Just because you don't include rpg/fps hybrids doesn't mean I don't, plus I am not getting sucked in to that arguement.
Since you brought up Mario games. There were only 5 mario related game released in 2009 and 3 downloadable only. And the others get a pass because they are not thrown in your face like FPS games are. I am watching/reading coverage of e3 and every other article I read is about an FPS game, granted the same games over and over. I am not saying there are more FPS shooters but they are like pop stars, you can't watch TV with out hearing something about them. I think action 3rd perspective is the most made genre right now.

Where were you folks 17 years ago when every game coming out seemed to be a colorful platformer with a cartoon character mascot?

Yeah, the gaming industry has always had it's 'trends' that seem to engulf the entire generation... just like the movie industry, really.

Beat'em ups, fighters, platformers, music games, they've all had their fifteen minutes. I really am sick of shooters though. Wish the industry would move on to something else already. An I wonder how much longer before we'll see quick time events banished to the hell that they belong in

I got tired of thoes too, like most people. I hope with the resurgence of sidescroller platformers that it doesn't get outa hand again. I love me some platformers but don't want to wade through terrible games.

First Person Shooters have been the standard bearer for video games since 2001. That's a decade. Some people need to find a new trope to hang on because the same old whining is not going to change a damn thing.

There are bazillions of games out there, more than enough to satiate the fans of any genre. Why some folks feel like they've been betrayed because a gaming company puts their marketing force behind what the vast majority of people want and get excited about is way beyond me. Entitlement issues are rampant in gamers, even more so than sci-fi fans. Think about that for a moment.

There are going to be Halo clones. There are going to be Grand Theft Auto clones. Just like there were Space Invaders and Mario clones before that. Just like there were Metal Gear Solid, Twisted Metal, Super Mario 64, Tomb Raider ... etc ... clones after that. Get over it. LIKE SOMETHING ALREADY and don't hate. Appreciate.

Maybe it's just because up until this console generation I was also a heavy PC gamer, but I just don't even notice FPSs anymore. I've learned to tune out all but the maybe 2% I actually care about.

What I really miss, now that my computer is the techno-equivalent of Gaston Lagaffe's car, is RTSs. I swear to God, if we don't see some RTSs that make use of Kinect or Move (which are both obviously going to be more than capable of taking the place of a mouse), I'm going raise an army and storm some bases.

A mouse with no buttons, maybe.

Well, okay, Move is more than capable of taking the place of a mouse. They even teased me with the whole "Move is precise enough to play Starcraft with!" thing they said.
